The government funding bill has passed in the House 366 - 34. Quite a margin! It would seem house members are no longer willing to do absolutely anything Trump wants. In the meantime, the Senate needs to vote on it. At least one news source say it is expected to pass there too.

The Washington Post says

Greetings from the U.S. Senate. Now that the House has passed the government funding measure, here’s how the rest of the evening will go:
The Senate will vote on a Social Security bill that would expand benefits for individuals who received smaller payouts because they had pensions or disability considerations and for spouses of recipients who received smaller payouts because they earned income from government pensions.

There may be six or seven amendment votes before the Senate takes up that bill. After that, the Senate will consider the continuing resolution passed by the House.
It should normally take at least a day before the Senate would vote. But lawmakers will probably agree to some sort of time agreement to drastically shorten the process and finish it tonight.

So strap in — we could be here a while.

So I know that something passed, but how different is it from the first version that failed? What was lost (other than time and nerves) in the process?

The senate voted 85-11 to pass the bill. I made a video of it deleting the roll call and some other stuff not pertinent to the bill.

Winners and losers.

Democrats partially won. By having to step in again, they look like the bipartisan side willing to take one (or how ever many that is now) for the team.

Republicans lost. They don't know how to lead or run the government or even tie their own shoes, and it shows.

Speaker Mike Johnson was battered by Republicans and showed Democrats he can't be trusted, so he lost big. Probably won't be a good Christmas around the Johnson home.

Herr Citizen Leader Musk won. He pretty much got what he wanted from the upgraded (D) bill. Well done, Leon.

"President" Trump lost. He didn't get a suspension of the debt ceiling, which was the only part he made direct threats over.

But the real losers: The American public. Yay us...
