This does not surprise me in the least. I expect to see a lot more of this.

In the last few years, our politicians have been screaming about extremist content on social media. They have used that issue to force social networks, and anybody who accepts user-generated content, to play by their rules. Playing by their rules means using their AI, which destroys content that the politicians don't like. Porn sites and facebook, and many other sites have had all kinds of purges that make no sense, because the purges don't actually fix the problems they are supposed to fix. This don't fit with the goals of any social network who wants to stay in business. The purges do fit the goals of politicians, who want to control discourse. The AI is basically a gatekeeper. You have a blue check mark? Then you have peerage. Peers may speak their mind. No blue check? You're trash. Your only role on a social network is to provide eyeballs for market. Go peddle your proletariat garbage on your de-indexed Wordpress blog.

They've gone so far with this as to pursue anti-trust actions against Facebook. I mean, I am no fan of Facebook, at all, but to say they have a monopoly is a bit of a stretch. Google and Amazon have more dangerous monopolies than FB. Anti-trust actions are not about protecting the economy, though. They are purely political tools now.

Now that the AI is in place everywhere, who is allowed to tweak it? Overtly, the AI is supposed to stop extremist terrorism, and sex trafficking. On family-friendly sites, the AI is supposed to remove porn, as well. This means that if somebody wants to make major changes to the AI, they have to link whatever bad thing they don't like to extremism, porn, or sex trafficking. Get ready for Trump supporters to call opponents pornographers (even though his wife literally did porn). It's very difficult to link GLBTQ+ content to extremism, unless you are literally preaching at an evangelical church. It's easy to connect it with porn, though. Google has been suppressing GLBTQ+ content on YouTube for years, by categorizing it as adult content. Google also probably wrote most of the AI that the politicians are shoving down our throats. So it's not much of a stretch to categorize GLBTQ+ people as porn everywhere else.

You are going to see lots of pornography arguments in the coming years, because of this. If you need a refresher, the standard I always learned for what defines porn in America is, "I know it when I see it." That's amorphous enough to keep us fighting over this forever. I don't have much faith that the current supreme court is going to help the situation.

It's embarrassing to admit this, but given the current state of the post office, the way it's falling apart after Trump, sending a letter with the USPS is kind of a political act now.

Right... and a lot of conservatives fell in love with a version of US history they taught after WWII that was very edited to make it SUPER clear the USA was the greatest country EVER!!!! But it's very hard to explain to them that this is also a form of indoctrination.

Apparently 40% of Americans believe in creationism and a similar proportion believe Trump won the last election. They have votes, just as sane people do.
