The band of their "organization", tho---🤣🤣🤣
"Super Happy Fun America". It sounds like something out of South Park (which would turn out to be run by Mr Garrison). 🤣🤣🤣

deal with this, because I think the "woke" condemnations just egg them on and cause more of a back fire effect.
Liberals write signs and sing kumbiya; nazis bring weapons and draw blood.

That's pretty much the way it's been, and as long as democrats clutch their pearls any time a genuine left wing movement comes along, that's the way it's gonna stay.

Of course, now that the nazis have infiltrated the police, the military, fbi, justice department, and oval office I don't think there's much chance of reform even if the democrats pulled their collective heads out.

Probably different in the USA but I'm told by police officers here in the UK that their discussions on the bus as they're being driven to demonstrations that they are to police generally suggest that their views about the subject of the demonstration pretty much reflect the divisions within the population as a whole. They tend not to enjoy policing demonstrations by the far right any more than would most of us -- "If I hadn't been out there protecting them, I'd have been demonstrating against them" is something I've often heard.
I had a rather funny interaction with a cop back during occupy who was escorting a few of us in his cruiser as we went to protest a bank. Those of us walking to the protest and he in his cruiser were having a pretty civil discussion while going there. When we got there the bank was closed (I forgot if they closed because of us or it was just outside their normal hours). He worked out with someone where another branch was that was open and escorted us to that one. It was almost like he was part of the protest just technically a cop!

I agree with you in spirit, but I think we need an actual plan for deprogramming the police. A "genuine left wing movement" isn't an answer in itself. What exactly will that movement do that can help?

Honestly? The biggest, biggest and most important thing that needs to be done, or at least up in the top three, is education and teaching people to think critically about what they're being told.

Another great step would be to actually acknowledge the extent of the problem -you cannot seriously have a political discussion with folks who are willing to shoot you and run you over with cars. I realize that's not an answer per se, but you can't begin to solve a problem unless you are willing to see it for what it is -and call it by name (nazism, fascism, violent psychopaths have coopted our elections and need to be deposed; not 'alt right').

I agree with this, but It's going to be a bit more of an uphill battle here, since so many on the right have successfully convinced much of America that universities just indoctrinate you, and don't teach you anything real. I think much of the social progress that happened between "Hey, there is a gay kid! Beat him up!" and gay marriage was due to liberals becoming teachers in such great numbers. But more recently, there has been a blow back. Conservatives are working very hard to undermine education.

I think you have the right idea, but the details are still complicated. And even if we get 95% of the population on board, the small, but LOUD minority of right wingers crazy enough to be terrorists has room to grow.

It was police and military capture by the hard Right and Christianists that made me think what we’re looking at is actually a right wing coup.

Every large city has Antifa willing to be a physical presence at protests. The Right propagandizes these people as terrorists and I’m very sure they would like to arrest them all, which if the Constitution gets any weaker, our right wing police will cooperate with.

They will do their best to ban protesters as well.

The only thing I can think of is pushback by liberal states and cities. It is hard to smear properly elected officials as terrorists. This will only work in places so blue voter suppression won’t shut it down.

The same deep blue jurisdictions need to push back hard against racism in the police, with an actionable plan that has enough teeth to deal with the inevitable police union pushback. It is not helpful enough to have deep blue politicians if your actual policing is being done by racists.

When this is done, it needs to be done by the kind of people who can deal with gangs and mafias, as the racist police are just as bad and have deep resources.

I am about 95% that American police have much stronger far right sympathies than European. It got a lot worse during the black lives matter protests. I heard a lot of stories of more liberal police being chased out for suggesting that some reforms may not be a bad thing. American police have a strong sense that democrats hate them. It's become a lot more partisan as of late.

I'm hoping this is just a temporary problem.
If it's any help, the police in the parts of England with which I'm familiar seem a completely different organisation from what I remember in the 1970s and 1980s

The Stephen Lawrence case and the subsequent Macpherson Inquiry led to sweeping and long-lasting changes and improvements, and the Broadwater Farm riot of 1985 focussed internal Met attention on what can go wrong when particular problem police stations are allowed to continue unchecked. Similarly, the Brixton riots of 1981 led to the Scarman Report and the Police and Criminal Evidence Act of 1984, which greatly changed policing by removing a number of abuses of the rights of suspects, false confessions and frame-ups.

I could continue the story at some length, but I hope you get the overall picture.

I'm the last person to pretend that the British police are without their very serious problems in some regards, but they have improved beyond recognition during my lifetime. It can be done, where there's the political will. There is, or certainly was at the time in the Met, also no lack of courageous, able and principled younger officers who are prepared to make or break their careers by trying to advance the reform agenda within the police.

Legitimation of genuine Left politics would change the atmosphere the police function in. The Right is counting on average whites to think the Left is bad and that the new Dominionism is traditional. Education could move the needle in blue regions at least.

Brilliant minds check in.

“Don’t forget: It is open season on straight, white men in this country and y’all aren’t allowed to celebrate your straightness,” she said on “Fox Nation.” “It’s 2019. Don’t you know that’s been off-limits for the past 10 years?”

I mostly agree with you, but wanted to express concern on this point. The right convinced minority, but a LOUD minority that Obama was a traitor for vague reasons. It could get worse. They also convinced a larger portion of the population that Hilary should be locked up because of an email server in a way that was actually commonly used among high officials until a recent crack down. And the smear campaign against AOC is extra creepy. A lot of people hat her SO MUCH while having no idea what she's ever said.

Not to forget this as another malign influence over US police as seen in Ferguson and other encounters.

New Deadly Exchange report massive US-Israeli police training programs
“American police already have a terrible track record on civil rights and racism – and then they go to Israel and train with Israeli police and security agencies that are documented human rights violators! We should be investing in our communities, not militarizing our police” – Jewish Voice for Peace Deputy Director Stefanie Fox
Israel Security Forces Are Training American Cops Despite History of Rights Abuses
“It just occurs to me that it isn’t a good idea, whether in Israel or another place, to go and train with a military or national police — in essence, learning from people who are better at the violent approach to conflict resolution,” Grosso told The Intercept. “That’s not appropriate for what we’re trying to do here in D.C.” “We already have the FBI, the CIA, the Secret Service, we have so many national police here, heavily armed,” he added. “We don’t need more of that, we need more of a community-based approach.” A spokesperson for the D.C. police told The Intercept in an email statement that the department is participating in the training “to learn best strategies in combatting terrorism.” “Expanding our knowledge on counterterrorism and gaining valuable experience for the next generation of MPD leadership is critical to the safety and well-being of the residents and visitors of D.C.,” the spokesperson wrote. “This opportunity will not allow us to deviate from our commitment to providing fair, unbiased, and constitutional policing.” In addition to meeting with their Israeli counterparts, American police on the delegations also visit representatives of the Israeli Defense Forces, as well as border security and intelligence services — essentially taking lessons from agencies that enforce military rule rather than civil law. “It fits in with this ideology of police as warriors,” said Vitale. “The focus of this training is on riot suppression, counterinsurgency, and counterterrorism — all of which are essentially irrelevant or should be irrelevant to the vast majority of police departments,” he added. “They shouldn’t be suppressing protest, they shouldn’t be engaging in counterinsurgency, and almost none of them face any real threat from terrorism.”
And there you have it - the U.S, population, or at least those of minorities/color/without wealth or position, have essentially been defined as the enemy of this self-appointed new "Warrior Cop" mindset.
I really feel for those good traditional cops who want to conduct community-based policing and uphold the actual law of the land; must be heartbreaking to see what, in far too many cases, their police force has become.

I totally agree with you. Unfortunately, critical thinking is pretty much only taught in college (I actually had a whole class on critical thinking as part of my degree program), and most of the right-wing nut jobs out there who so desperately need it have not only never attended college, but firmly believe college manufactures liberals.

However, their choice of a replacement for Mr Pitt is perhaps rather surprising:

The site’s homepage now prominently displays an amended version of its previous announcement, redacting the actor’s name and declaring the images “censored”, while another post, published on Friday, said its new mascot was the controversial author and far-right activist Milo Yiannopoulos.

Yiannopoulos will act as both mascot and grand marshal of a proposed parade to be staged by the group in Boston, mirroring the route taken by the city’s annual Pride parade.
The group's website (linked in the article) tells us that :
Upon his appointment as Grand Marshall, Milo Yiannopoulos said: “I might technically be a sequined and perfectly coiffed friend of Dorothy’s, but I’ve spent my entire career advocating for the rights of America’s most brutally repressed identity—straight people—so I know a thing or two about discrimination.
Is this all some sort of giant troll that's escaped into the wild from under its bridge somewhere in 8-chan?
