Rhodes is known for wearing a black eyepatch that makes him look a bit like a pirate, but he never was some sort of dastardly, swashbuckling privateer, nor has his injury anything to do with his military service - this idiot just mishandled one of his beloved guns and let it drop, which resulted in an accidental discharge that almost killed him.
