I saw this article pointed out on the SL subreddit... I'm not familiar with 'Document Journal' and presumed it was just some 'wordpress' level self-publishing dropbox. I stopped reading when I got this:
Second Life is vehemently no-fun to play, in equal turns boring, frustrating, saddening, and brutal.
I tried again because it showed up here. And stopped at the same point. If that line was presented as an opinion, I might have kept reading, but it wasn't. The author's tone delivers it as "Fact". no thanks.

Two decades of seeing criticism about SL, and "Projection" seems to be a very core theme to a lot of it.

SL is what you bring to it. It's a creative world if you're a creative person. It's a social world if you're a social person. It's a sandbox if you're a tinkerer. If it's boring, it's probably because you're boring and lack the motivation or attention span to find something interesting to do with it.

I get that the learning curve may seem daunting and infinite, but same is true of real life too. The consequences of 'logging out' of RL are a bit more permanent though, so we stick with it, even through all the 'no-fun, boring, frustrating, saddening and brutal' parts.

Yeah, that article was very dramatic and had some interesting things to say but deep in it's core they obviously didn't really understand SL. Just the idea that it's a "game" you "play" shows really missing the point. I view it as an outsider's perspective which I still value but very much an outsider's perspective.

The more I think about the article the more annoying I find some of it. They clearly wanted to hear themselves talk and were lazy with their understanding. Saying SL is no fun to play is like saying facebook or instagram are no fun to play. You don't really "play" any of those things. SL is social media with much better visuals.

I never heared about that "Document Journal" before. Web pages with women as eye catcher in the background are always something I am suspicous about, which indeed is just a shameless way of them to link to their fashion store:

And not even marked as advertisement whatever. Shame on them.

Interestingly though it is relevant enough to have an own article in the Wikipedia, which looks more like something their PR department put up together. So they are about culture, arts and fashion and printed biannually in spring and fall.

Well it explains why the writer is so picky about aesthetics, glitchy spooky faces and such. And she got some valid points like about the really hideous UI, learning curve and user base which dropped a lot.

But aside that it's just arrogant looking down on something she even remotely refuses to understand.
