Republicans to scrap primaries and caucuses as Trump challengers cry foul

The primaries are not real elections. As the DNC's own lawyers argued in 2017, they have the right to pick their candidates over cigars in back rooms.

It's dismissed as conspiracy that, for example, HRC paid the DNC $10M in exchange for control over DNC staffing, message and funding during the 2016 primary, because surely someone would have gotten in trouble for that, right?

No. The courts do not recognize the primaries as elections and will not adjudicate them accordingly. The parties are under no obligation to maintain impartiality or to even hold an election. The DNC is being sued for fraud (violating their own charter, talking donations in bad faith), not for rigging an election. Because they don't hold elections.

Either do the Republicans.

The parties are not government. The parties are private entities. They are not democratic in any sense of the word. We've invested too much faith in them, and granted them too much power.

If it had been entirely up to the Republican party leadership in 2016, Trump would not have been the nominee. Thanks to "democracy" however, he built a powerful base within the party and took control.

So one way or another, we can get screwed. Party machinations or charismatic populism, choose your poison.

Paradoxically, the republican party is more democratic than the democratic party. For one, they don't have superdelegates.

DNC chair says superdelegates ensure elites don't have to run "against grassroots activists"

We learned in 2016 that the will of the plutocrats can still be overwhelmed. They can tip the scales, put their finger on the scales, whatever you want to call it. They have all the money and own all the media, and they use it for propaganda. But demographics aren't on their side. They will eventually have to cheat so hard that even the most obedient of us will notice.

The question is, how will the plutocrats react when they don't get their way?

I apologetically submit that Russiagate is what happens when they don't get their way. They make shit up whole-cloth. It's going to get worse.

Huh? The plutocrats weren't overcome. They got 45, their tax cuts, and have been looting the country six ways from Sunday.
Oh sure, they're not complaining now. But during his campaign Trump was already lying his ass off about "draining the swamp" and blustering about not needing money because he's totally the richest human ever in history and etc and, being said swamp, that made them not like him as a candidate. Luckily for them he's perpetually for sale and a militant nepotist as a bonus, so it all worked out in the end.

:qft:

Trump winning totally freaked them out. Wasn't. Supposed. To. Happen.

But, okay, he won the primary. He'll make an easy opponent for Clinton, right?

Fucker won again. Wasn't. Supposed. To. Happen.

Hope and change president followed by drain the swamp president. It always works out for the plutocrats.

But there are fucking cracks.
