Reminder: VVO Has A Discord Server

Even though there is a giant Discord link on the main navigation, I wanted to remind everyone that we do have a VVO server on Discord that is quite active (ok, like 10 of us chat all the time and like 90 lurk). Click on the Discord link on the navigation and there is a join link there. You can use Discord through the web, on mobile, and with dedicated desktop clients. You can belong to multiple Discord servers, and it has both text and voice chat channels, along with private messaging.

The VVO Discord server has channels for general discussion, gaming, SL and more. I hope you will check it out and stick around

Can someone give us a quick n simple like one-line description of what Discord is? Cos we hear hte word now and then but... is it like a social media thing?

An instant messaging client. Like Skype, ICQ, ventrilo, etc etc. There is the ability to use voice chat but us Vvoers either lurk or post gifs. We've only used voice when we played games together back in the ice age.

When I tried the VVO discord channel it was frequently too busy to keep up with, and being it's conversation in real time I feel silly responding to something that happened a day ago or more. Some grids use discord in place of a forums/trouble ticket/etc otherwise i wouldn't bother with discord at all.

It tends to go in phases - sometimes there will be bursts of conversations, and sometimes it will be quiet the entire day. I will sometimes scroll back and see what I missed, and if I want to comment on it I do, even if it was chat from yesterday, and if I want to direct it at someone, I just @ them in my reply. It's not so real time chat most of the time.

I can’t speak for everyone but I have no personal problem with someone responding to my days or even months old messages. I’d be astounded that you read back on chat. I don’t! If I go weeks without keeping up, I just skip to current.

conversations are generally pretty fluid... due to pop ups on my phone i have sometimes responded to conversations that i have found out later is hours old..embarrassing as it may be normally i don't think it's a big of a deal as you may think... bringing back up a topic we and we can start talking about it again.

I've poked my head in our Discord channel a few times. Once in a while there's a conversation going on, but usually I find I'm just talking to myself.
