My new favorite series. I'm only about halfway through it due to lack of time, but highly recommended.
The usual SF tropes of young boy with emerging superpowers is given a fresh perspective by focusing on his mother and her struggles to guide and protect him. And her challenge is not just dealing with his powers, we also see her deliver The Talk that black parents have with black children, that first time of explaining why a white adult treats them differently.
