Of course.

A number of Republican senators who blithely supported former Attorney General Bill Barr using his post to act as former President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer are suddenly expressing serious concern that Merrick Garland promise to be apolitical in the same role.

“My sole criterion for voting for your confirmation is your pledge to make sure that politics does not affect your job as attorney general,” Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) said Monday at Garland’s Senate Judiciary hearing.

Cornyn, who voted to confirm Barr, later was a point Republican scrambling to smooth over strained relations between Trump and Barr last winter, loathe to let a reliable ally be fired going into the election.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) took the argument a step further, blaming the “Obama-Biden Justice Department” for being “politicized and weaponized” in an unprecedented way.

If Vance's staff find significant wrongdoing in Trump's tax returns, there will emerge an important question: why didn't the NY State tax office and IRS object to his tax returns, fine him for unpaid back taxes or something like?

Because the tax department *only* gets the tax returns. They only compare it to the federal returns via data sharing, and I assume his accountants made sure the two returns were consistent. What the Manhattan DA is now doing is comparing the tax returns to the bank applications, property tax valuations, and internal Trump Org data. Note that this subpoena didn't just get his returns. It got *all* the related paperwork from his accountants. Basically emptied out the file cabinets.

Note that the IRS *did* object to one of his large deductions, but didn't go after him while he was President and one of his toadies ran the Treasury Department (which the IRS is part of). That hasn't been resolved yet, and it's for $75 million.

In the meantime, murders and violent crime are up in New York City by record numbers, and nothing is done about it. Our elected officials don’t care. All they focus on is the persecution of President Donald J. Trump.
"This is harassment! Haven't you got any real criminals to catch?" is not the sort of line an innocent man would take.

Fulton DA's Investigation into Trump Heads to Grand Jury

Fulton County prosecutors are expected to appear before a grand jury this week seeking subpoenas for documents and witnesses related to their investigation of former President Donald Trump and some of his top associates for possible election fraud, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has learned.

Legal experts are split as to whether there’s a strong case to be made, but most agree Trump’s efforts to overturn Georgia’s election results merit greater scrutiny. Fani Willis, Fulton’s new district attorney, has said she’s prepared to follow the evidence wherever it leads.

Some believe the recording of Trump’s Jan. 2 phone call with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger leaning on him to “find” the votes to reverse Joe Biden’s win is grounds to move forward.

“If there were a textbook (example of) how to commit criminal election fraud, this would be it,” said Atlanta attorney David Walbert, who has represented Fulton County and the state of Georgia in several elections and redistricting cases.

Can't seem to wrap my head around the interrogation today about the Capitol insurrection. Namely: how is it accepted that Cruz and Hawley get to grill the FBI director rather than recuse?? Foxes in the henhouse with no consequences, yet again.

In January and February not only has MSNBC been the top rated net work in all cable – not cable news but all cable —but Rachel Maddow‘s show is now the top rated show in all cable.
