I can't say that I grew up on Black Sabbath, but Ozzy did have a bit of an influence on my widely-varied musical tastes growing up.

I've always been low-key amazed at this guy, and others like him. It seems like he belongs to this cadre of performers where so many of them, maybe even most, burned out and died very young from heavy drugs or self-harm. It was a subculture that just seemed to almost make a point or show out of not caring very much about their own well-being. Somehow he managed to make it through all that; he has a whole family, a wife and kids who love him a lot. I've always wondered how he did it. Was it just luck?

And yeah, I saw him live a couple times in high school. He certainly had his demons but seemed like such a genuine person overall.

It is hard to tell. Keith Richards is the same type of guy. With all the drugs and alcohol he consumed in his life of sex and drugs and rock n roll it is a miracle he is still alive.
I guess, some people are just made out of steel or something.

A whole lot of credit goes to Sharon Osbourne.

I cannot even imagine what sort of effort of will it took for him to summon up the energy to do that last show. What a trooper.

I think much like Angus Young and Alice Cooper - Ozzy found a way to separate stage Ozzy from private Ozzy - almost like he's 2 different people, and that's how he survived.

I didn't expect him to pass quite so soon after that show, but I knew it would be within the year. When I heard him talking about how much pain he's in....

Does anyone else remember when smart phones were first coming out that Ozzy did a commercial for one of them, where he he's talking to a therapist? He mumbles something incoherent, then writes it on his phone, hands it to the therapist who says, "That's disturbing Ozzy."
