That's pretty much their business model, ain't it?

As Bloomberg first reported, OnlyFans said will ban any content containing sexually-explicit conduct on its site starting Oct. 1. The lines seem to be a bit blurred, though, as creators are going to be allowed to post some nude content if it is consistent with OnlyFans' policy, the platform told Mashable in a statement. Currently, there is nothing in OnlyFans' Acceptable Use Policy that details which nude content would be allowed under the new rules, and OnlyFans did not immediately respond to Mashable’s request for details on the policy.

OnlyFans is making the move because, while there are plenty of users and creators on the app, they simply cannot pull in enough investors. According to documents leaked to Axios this week, OnlyFans is one of the largest and most successful platforms for creators — and it continues to grow. But investors aren’t interested in getting involved, because of the sexually-explicit content.
Icky sex stuff scares off the money. Typical.

The news was confusing to me at first. I've never used the site, but I just assumed it was "Patreon for Porn" - so to me it just sounded the same as "Pornhub is banning Porn"

I've heard a bit about this... but their announcement still sounds weird. They can crack down on illegal stuff without banning all porn. If they move forward with a total porn ban, competitors will steal all their business.
They (reportedly) knew some accounts were abusing children and issued warnings instead of doing the right thing and contacting the authorities. They were investigated and found 15 accounts sexually exploiting children. Apparently if an account has enough views they don't do anything at all. This is why they are banning all sexual content, they're trying to save face.

If this stuff turns out to be true, I can't imagine anyone will want to do business with them, SFW or otherwise.

I remember when a big convention I go to called MAG fest had problems over the past year with all kinds of sexual harassment by various board members. I can't keep up with all the details, but I think most board members stepped down, and I don't think anybody expected the con to continue. Eventually, the assholes were ousted and a few remaining board members started to pick up the pieces. They started by having a fund raiser on... only fans. I have no idea why they decided to use only fans of all things, and I totally missed it. I only heard about it after the fact, but the first thing I imagined was board members sexually harassing each other on cam for donations. It wasn't that. People who donated tell me it was a good stream, and MAG fest is going to happen again, which is good. That was just the first time I heard of Only Fans used for anything other than porn.

It will be interesting to see what people do after this. I think most video streaming platforms have private, invite only streaming options. Maybe porn stars will start using that, and selling access through web sites they own? That might be a very good thing. We don't need big platforms for everything... or maybe we don't need them at all. I think the internet would be better if users all owned some web space, so they can own their content, rather than giving it to people like Dorsey and Zuckerberg for free. We probably aren't going back to the days of geocities any time soon, but maybe we can move a bit closer to that?

The BBC article is very enlightening.

OnlyFans: How it handles illegal sex videos - BBC investigation

and from earlier this year:

Oooooh, this all makes sense now. When tumblr banned porn, and when pornhub nuked half their content, they also did it when the media was reporting that they host child porn. Only Fans is worried that an article like this might gain enough traction to have them shut down permanently, overnight, without a trial, by credit card companies (PornHub is still blacklisted by Visa, BTW).

These companies always say it's investors who are demanding they turn off the porn, but that's always been a flimsy excuse. People on Wall St are no puritans. They are probably some of the biggest consumers of sex work in the country. It's always been about Visa and Mastercard's company policies, and bad press making them enforce those policies.

So, as I understand it, its not for investors, but because Mastercard refuses to let them get money through that card, and its likely that other cards and payment services will do the same.

Another note, I am pretty sure it's not actually all sex content, it's just sexually explicit content (fucking).

The whole nudes and "look at me in my color themed underwear, totally cosplaying sexy Thanos" style people get to stay.

That's all actually in the quoted content in my OP.

Yes. I think it's still unclear how sexual content can be and still be on OF. I'm pretty sure that a lot of their business will be split up among several different sites going forward. There is hot competition to be the next only fans.

Fitting. In a thread about how OnlyFans is changing their rules regarding nudity/porn/etc., there's a video that says "this video is unavailable".
Yah, it's vanished from TheRealSullyg's channel :( Sadly I did not archive it.

So, Tumblr kicked porn to the curb. Pornhub booted like 95% of it's content as 'unverified' (and what's left seems to be more underage content than ever). Now OnlyFans is bending over backwards.

And in each case it seems to come down to "... mounting pressures from banking partners and payment providers ..."

Does it strike anyone else as fucking beyond ironic that the companies flagrantly wallowing in the biblical MORTAL SIN of USURY have effectively crowned themselves the arbiters of morality on the internet?

I mean seriously, money lending with interest used to be considered on par with murder and adultery.

Not just porn. Sites like 4chan and fetlife have all kinds of problems because payment providers won't work with them. Payment processors need to be regulated as utilities. We need bank neutrality laws.
