Something happened a few years back which ended a hunt that lasted since at least tween me. Since middle school, at least. There was a Jimi Hendrix song that I just KNEW existed. I knew one riff. I could hear it in my head. I could almost play it on guitar. And, any time I mentioned it, people assumed I was just talking about Little Wing. And, I'd be all "no". I know what Little Wing sounded like in so many of its iterations. This song was definitely not Little Wing.

Suddenly, during a Napster (remember Napster?) binge of Hendrix songs, I opened a song which literally physically gave me chills. I'm not exaggerating. I actually felt a cold, tingly, shiver in myself at the first riff. It was that song. EXACTLY how I expected it to sound. Exactly the riff I expected it to be. The file name is "Jimi Hendrix (LIVE 07-30-1970) - Incident at the Rainbow Bri.mp3". I now guard that file with my life. I have multiple backups of it as though it's my birth certificate, title to my house, and the meaning of life itself, all merged into one. Because, in spite of actually having the song, I can't find it ANYWHERE. I see mentions of it. "Incident At The Rainbow Bridge" fills in the missing letters. It's not actually in any version of the Rainbow Bridge album I'm aware of. It exists. I knew it existed for as long as I could remember listening to music. But, in reality, I still can't find it anywhere.

A close second is "Weebee Dance" by The Tubes. My dad had a Laser Disc of "The Completion Backward Principle". (Saying 'had' because I have it now! XD). It immediately follows "Let's Make Some Noise" Carrying on a chant of the preceding song's chorus. And, again, that's my only copy. I can't find it anywhere else. There IS a live version on their "Death Of A Plumber" album. But, even that is a tough find, and still not the studio cut found on the video.

Third place is held by a Mushroom Head song. It's a bonus version of We Are The Truth. Gladly it can be found on Youtube. It was part of a Best Buy exclusive version of their "The Righteous & The Butterfly" album. So, finding a non-pirated copy of the song is a near impossible find.

I kind of wonder how this happens. Or how often it happens. Would you happen to know about very obscure or even missing recordings of otherwise mainstream bands? Like, a song you KNOW exists yet even Google can't find it. Even if you have the song. But, only because it's on a an album you found in an esoteric vinyl collection from some guy you met at Bizarre Guitar on that one Saturday when you actually won $500 at the nickel slots and decided it would be fun to spend your winnings on a nice used Epiphone SG.

Or, am I off my rocker and these songs are totally easy to find but I'm just using the wrong words when searching?

Ah, the fun of deep cuts of songs, its up there for me with finding the original versions of songs with better known covers.

Glad you found a copy, even if you can't find any others. Shame, I bet I'd like that song too - Hendrix was a genius.

As for finding them? Some just are complete beasts to find.

Up there with finding stuff from non-obscure bands with odd names.

Like, its a bear to find 'The The' [took me literal years], Or P, or X...

Also, can add bands that were wildly popular at least in the alt and goth music scene, that just vanish off the face of the world because of label issues [The Bolshoi - took me until '99 to get their stuff again, but they were very true to their name in the middle of the 80s.]
