I'm doing just fine with my Oculus Quest, but... the Quest 2 supports new features and I'm experiencing FOMO. Has anyone purchased the Quest 2? Any recommendations or gotchas? If nothing else, I can only access Horizon World with a Quest 2, and although I'm skeptical of its success, I'm curious and would like to stay current on the state of the metaverse.

Someone help me out here. I need some justification for spending money on a new VR headset, when the one I have now works just fine. My wife rolled her eyes and said "At our age, for god's sake spoil yourself a little," or words to that effect. But I could still use more of a nudge.

I'm debating whether to get a Quest 2 or not. I already have the first Quest. I haven't really used it in awhile. If I do get a Quest 2 it probably won't be till this weekend or early next week.

If you do go ahead, I'd be interested in your reactions. So far, from what I've read from other users, there are a few obvious benefits -- such as lighter weight and better screen resolution. I can't quite bring myself to buy a new one just for those incremental improvements... at least not yet.

Screen resolution alone is ample reason - particularly for anything 'real life'.
Do get a comfy strap though, something with padding and an adjustment knob on the back - I got a relatively inexpensive one and it's a world of difference.
You can eBay the Oculus 1 for up to $200... or keep it and you and your wife can do stuff together in VR.

I'm with your wife, Beebo. Spoil yourself a little.

I've decided on a compromise. I'm going through pulmonary rehab, three times a week for the next several months. If I can make it through without quitting, or without it killing me, then my reward will be a Quest 2. Higher resolution is nice, but playing Beat Saber with a lighter headset is really appealing. The Quest 1 is heavy.

I ordered it a little while ago from Amazon and it should be here on Sunday. Probably will spend that night updating and putting programs/games on it.

We have one. Mrs Quandry loves it, especially a meditation app she found. I plan using it after classes wrap up next month.

Which meditation app? I found one called TRIPP but it looks like it has in-app purchases.

I got my Quest 2 today but mostly all I did was update it and add some apps to it. I also did the tutorial again but that's it. It is lighter and appears to look better but I haven't used any of those apps yet of used it for long.

I tried the Quest 1 before I got a Quest 2. The 1 gave me a bad screen door effect, and that alone made the 2 worth it for me. I hear new sign ups don't have to link their Quest hardware with their Facebook accounts any more. I don't know how true that is, that's just what I've heard.

I'm thinking about getting this below but not right now. I'd like to try the Quest 2's without buying that first. It's an aftermarket head strap that is better than the one that you can get from Oculus. It's $39.99. There is a version with a removable battery that lasts about 3 hours but is about $20 more expensive.

I used it for about 2 hours just exploring some of the installed apps and the system. It didn't feel uncomfortable at all but I wasn't moving around much. At the end I had 39% left in the battery.

That's a better battery life than the Quest 1, although I rarely ran it that long other than watching movies on VR.

As for the strap, I've heard that the original is "inadequate" but I bear in mind that this judgment comes from young guys playing active shooter games. Not so sure I'd put undue stress on it, but the accessory you tagged does look nifty. I'll keep that in mind for is/when I buy a new Quest.

It's according to how much I use it in a day that I might get the strap with the battery pack. I think it adds 3 hours but I'm thinking that just the Quest 2 battery should be enough. It seems to charge pretty quickly.

The built in battery is more or less ok for "light" uses and lightweight applications. If you intend to use more intensive applications (such as - oddly - VRC or games like Zenith) you'll want higher capacity.

I've stuck with the default/original strap thus far as it's not uncomfortable to me (and I have other things to spend money on right now). I do make use of a repuposed hip pack that has an opening for headphone/charger cables alongside a longish USB to USB-C cable and two (sometimes three) external battery packs I have laying around to extend the battery life. Between the two of those packs, I can use my Quest 2 for about seven or eight hours (longer if I have to break out the third pack) before I need to worry about a charge.

I played "Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge" last night for almost 2 hours and after all that time the headset never felt heavy or uncomfortable.
