The hill-climbing algorithm can solve problems and make decisions using nothing but a clay model and a bowl of water, and that's the level of problem solving slime molds do. You don't need an actual fungus when you can replace it with a non-fungal token.

Creatures that eat meat that are obligate herbivores - deer, cows.... not sure if squirrels are I think they are omnivores, but they eat meat too.
