Malcolm X was killed in 1965. Raymond Wood, recently deceased NYPD undercover officer back then, wrote a letter which was now made public after his death about that incident.

Raymond Wood’s letter stated that he had been pressured by his NYPD supervisors to lure two members of Malcolm X’s security detail into committing crimes that resulted in their arrest just days before the fatal shooting. Those arrests kept the two men from managing door security at the ballroom and was part of conspiracy between the NYPD and FBI to have Malcolm killed, according to the letter.

“Under the direction of my handlers, I was told to encourage leaders and members of the civil rights groups to commit felonious acts,” Wood’s letter stated.

The descendants of Malcolm X do believe that this conspiracy between NYPD and FBI to kill Malcolm X might be possible. The NYPD's response is just we're totally working together with the district attorney, while the FBI declines to comment upon this.

Following Saturday’s news conference, Vance’s office released a statement saying its “review of this matter is active and ongoing.” The NYPD said in a separate statement it has “provided all available records relevant to that case to the District Attorney” and “remains committed to assist with that review in any way.”

The FBI declined to comment on the matter.

Malcolm X’s daughter Ilyasah Shabazz said she had always lived with uncertainty around the circumstances of her father’s death.

“Any evidence that provides greater insight into the truth behind that terrible tragedy should be thoroughly investigated,” she told the news conference.

As long as one engine is still functioning the passengers are pretty safe. Modern airplanes are constructed with that case in mind and are able to fly with one functioning jet engine only. The standard covering this is being called ETOPS or Extended-range Twin-engine Operational Performance Standards.

Depending on the airplane manufacturer and type an airplane is able to fly from 180 up to 330 minutes with one engine.

Since two engines are nowadays enough, four engines became somewhat less popular. Also due to fuel demands.

ETOPS also means that in worst case your route must be calculated that way that any time the nearest airport you can land on in case of emergency must be in reach within this certified time frame.

In 2003 an airplane from New Zealand e.g. was still flying over three hours with one engine only before landing on Kona, Hawaii.

So yes, not such a nice sight to have, but prayers are only necessary if both engines are burst up into flames and gone.

Woods' vehicle was going north on Hawthorne Boulevard at Blackhorse road, on the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes, when it crashed and sustained "major damage," the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.

Woods was the driver and only occupant of the vehicle, the statement said.

He was rushed into surgery at a nearby hospital where he was treated for a compound fractures in at least one leg, law enforcement sources said.

The Book That Should Change How Progressives Talk About Race

So McGhee is trying to shift the focus from how racism benefits white people to how it costs them. Why is student debt so crushing in a country that once had excellent universities that were cheap or even free? Why is American health care such a disaster? Why is our democracy being strangled by minority rule? As the first line of McGhee’s book asks, “Why can’t we have nice things?” Racism is a huge part of the answer.

As I Brit by birth, I really hate to say France is beating the pants off the UK (and the US, etc, etc)

Covid: France rewards frontline immigrant workers with citizenship

"Health professionals, cleaning ladies, childcare workers, checkout staff: They all proved their commitment to the nation, and it is now the turn of the republic to take a step towards them," the office of Marlene Schiappa, junior minister for citizenship, said on Tuesday.

This echoes what I was talking about in another thread. Notice that the majority of state funding for MN is schools. This is during a time when Democrats have been in charge. We were lucky during the Trump years unlike the Bush years when Republicans at both the national and state level were in charge and cut funding for everything in sight, especially public schools.

That seems to be part and parcel of three beliefs, the first being attempts to defund public schools in favor of charter and private schools, especially when they have a profit motive of their friends ala Betsy Devos, the hatred of teacher unions and in the background beliefs like what we see in this article that cities are subsidized by the larger state, similar to those who believe that on a national level, despite all evidence to the contrary When they get into office, they slash school funding and it falls to property taxes.

Also, remember that Trump refused any aid whatsoever following last years protest damages. We have our own Moscow Mitch in the Senate. His name is Paul Gazelka and he, very much, is a typical lie spewing republican. The greater public may fall for these ruses but these politicians know exactly what they are doing and I see it in the vein of misinformation.
