I think we're seeing a combination of the Streisand and Dunning-Kruger effects at work here.
Brand's fans, of whom there are an alarming number, will, like those of Andrew Tate and Donald Trump (I suspect there's a large overlap here), conclude that it's all a plot by
the Jews sinister globalist forces who control the media and the courts to discredit their hero, not that there's anything really discreditable about the alleged behaviour in the first place.
Most other people, who've long known that Brand is an irritating jerk and who don't normally pay much attention to him, or watch Dispatches or read The Times, now know to look out for the story.
Presumably, whiile I think there are rules in place about warning subjects of TV current affairs investigations about the likely content of the show, the show's producers and The Times' editor rather hoped he'd react this way.
