Not really mind boggling. A billionaire with no subject area expertise hiring people based more on their faith than knowledge announced he intended to open a museum full of biblical artifacts and needed a collection. Turns out a lot of smugglers and forgers saw this as too good an opportunity to pass up.

The forgeries are exceptionally clever, though. It really did take months of testing to reveal the fakery. Whoever created them just for one example went to the trouble of sourcing clay from the actual vicinity of Qumran (where the originals were found in the 1940's), dustifying it, and incorporating the dust into the fake patina; this might have fooled a not-unreasonably less thorough test.

I think the museum deserves some credit, honestly - for having an independent team conduct these tests to begin with, and for agreeing to publish the final results immediately without an attempt at spin or rationalization.

If those are indeed bottles of wine, and that room is as warm as most american homes, they'll all be vinegar by the time they're opened...
It's probably a highly zone-controlled environment with a special air duct system hidden behind the racks.

Or, she would never notice the difference.
