Maybe it's just me, but I was working on improving my land on Furu and I wanted to add a [local] teleporter so that visitors could jump from the greenhouse to the homestead to the underwater garden. I had one that Mooph Murphy made sometime back in the day and set up a couple of those. They worked once or twice and then started throwing people into the middle of the ocean and for the life of me I can't figure out why (nothing changed).

So then I went out and bought one and it's the kind where you have to use a notecard to load the teleport locations, yeah that's great except I can't load the notecard because the device is "no copy or modify" so I don't have permission to put the notecard into the contents so the script can use it. :voodoo:

So then I buy yet another teleporter, more expensive (from Bob's creative solutions) and the set of instructions is a big zero and I can't for the life of me figure out how to put the teleport points into it. I am beyond frustrated. Nor can I find just a simple teleport script. :shakefist:

If anyone has any recommendations they would be most welcome.

I have a couple, but I'd need to get inworld to see the names. I do remember using this:

Another was either this : Second Life Marketplace - :: J :: Teleporter
Or this : Second Life Marketplace - [Alpheratz] Easy Teleporter (Multichannel)

You have to edit the names of there are more than two, but not notecards.

Thanks - I'll have a look at these and see which one looks easiest for me to work with. I can't help but think though, that it should not be this difficult. :confusedcat:

I made up some cross-sim teleport rugs a while back to test out a script snippet in the RLV API. They work when you collide with them (step on them). Send me an IM in-world and I'll send a full copy one to you.

I think it requires an active RLV relay which makes it easy to just step-and-go without clicking, and it does so with a forced teleport. Handy if you don't mind wearing a relay but otherwise it could be problematic.

I like this: Second Life Marketplace - Magic-Teleport-Door although it does tend to stand out (because if you modify the prims, then it gets weird when you use it -so I don't modify it).

It uses landmarks, I don't remember if it works across sims or not -but for different points in the same sim it works really well.

Did you try to contact the maker of the first one? It might be an honest mistake.

I would except I don't think Mooph Murphy is around anymore, plus the one he made works perfectly for one or two teleports and then subsequent uses go into the deep dark sea. The second one was made by Cubey and I don't think he's around anymore either, that was the one with the permissions issue. I have other things both Mooph and Cubey did and they were great stuff. I'll try some of the suggestions here and see if I can't get something working.

My property on Furu is fairly large and over half of the stuff is underwater so I'd like to be able to have a teleporter to make it easy for people to hop around and look at different things.

The Novatech TPers are great for that and the creator is still inworld.

I can just give you a TP system. It's server-based.

Place the pads where you want them, edit the description to a location name, then reset the server.
(You can add/remove/move pads later, just reset the server to get the new locations.)
Caveat: I'm lazy and giving this out for free, so it only supports 13 pads.

However, you can have multiple setups -- they have to be put down by someone else (I use alts, but you can have another group member set a different set down). This allows to have both a private and a public system.

There are two server versions -- one public that anyone can use (owner/group operated) or one group/list-based that only allows people with a group tag active or on an internal list (Legacy names for security.)

TLDR:

1. Rez up to 13 pads, change the description, edit to your heart's content.
2. Rez your choice of public or private server
3. (Private Server): add legacy names to the notecard and reset it.
4. Contact Beezle Warburton or Winston Chandrayaan when it doesn't work.

Please try this (and don't hesitate to IM me if it doesn't work -- I'm not often online as me but I see messages and I can respond quickly).

Code:
/*
Quick and dirty point to point intra-region sit-teleporter --
PLEASE FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY OR IT WON'T WORK.
1) Rez a simple object (I find a simple cylinder <0.5,0.5,0.1> works well);
2) Place it at point A, and drop this script in it.
3) Take a copy of the object, now containing the script, go to point B, anywhere on the region, and drop a copy there.
4) Touch it to teleport back to point A, and vice versa.

NB -- this works only with paired copies of the same object, and only two.
If you want to have more than one pair of teleporters on a region, that's OK, but you have to rez a separate original and then make a copy to create the pair.

It works by identifying the matching object's original creation/upload time, so if you have several copies of the same original out on the region, it won't know which it's paired with.

I use the TBF Equinox Portal which I couldn't find, and have been happy with it. The version on the marketplace by the same person is only $10

If it works as well as the version I have, it's fab - the only time it has a problem is if you click drag a new copy and briefly have two versions with the same description, but it self-corrects even that to give one of them a key description instead of the same one. I'd highly recommend. You can put them anywhere, and they automatically network themselves and show a location for each one in world on the same sim. You just have to put a description short enough to appear on the menu, and you're away, no notecards, no scripting or fuss.

Edited to add: found it!

Thank you so much for this - I only have five different areas for people to teleport so this should work fine, I'll give it a try. The teleporter that I was using that Mooph made was a sit teleporter but obviously something went bonkers and I suspect it's a Linden bug related issue that broke the teleporter.

Ooops. I forgot to comment out a couple of debug messages -- fixed now in the post.

Cubey is still around. He pops up now and then. Send him a notecard and IM.

I don't have a link because I'm away from my PC for a few days, but I've been using a teleporter that says yts on it for years. IIRC, it was like $L10 or something. Total set it and forget it solution. If you drop two pads, it teleports between them. Drop 3 or more, and it gives you a dialog to choose which one you want to go to. It also lets you set up multiple tp networks by changing the description field on the pads.

Just got back to the PC. Here's the link to the teleport pad I have been using for years. Very simple, works great. It's actually L$50.
