I watched both, too. Didn’t looove it, but still enjoyed it. I also wasn’t too sure about Skarsgard being cast, but as Beebo says, he’s doing a good job. Maybe it’s only because he differs in how I imagined Murderbot (hairless and with less facial expression). I imagined them more as a cyborg.
I think we’re seeing Murderbot’s interpretation of everyone, which is how it’s supposed to be, just as in the book. Humans are silly, not too bright. When I was reading the books, though, I also saw them as scientists, capable and smart. I could also imagine their own points of view. That’s what made it funny to me, the contrast of the serious manner of the crew, and Murderbot’s thoughts and judgments of their ways. They weren’t actively goofy, it was Murderbot’s biting commentary that made them so. I’m not sure if that makes sense.
Maybe that’s what I feel is missing, my own interpretations, ha ha.
Having said that, I love how the cast just looks “normal”, not a bunch of twenty something models. The visuals/sets are great, very much how I imagined it all. It’s fun to see snippets of Sanctuary Moon, and yes, the intro is cool and I want an action figure, too.
