I've been having a blast with flight sim. I did a flight from the Cambridge bay airport in Nunavut to Alert. It was pretty fun. Bit buggy as the VFR map did not seem to want to go that far. Plus landing in Alert is a challenge.

Here's a fun tool for creating realistic flight plans for flight simulator 2020 if it hasn't been linked already in this thread:

Big update just went out on the 24th!

Well, two big updates. The first one is the new build 1.11.6.0 and downloads after you start the program. It's 22GB so I suggest waiting until you have the time and letting it download in the background while you do other things - a few patches ago Flight Simulator was fixed so that the downloading screen is windowed, and the music mutes whenever the focus is not on Flight Simulator, so downloading updates in the background is fairly painless these days. Build 1.11.6.0 fixes a bunch of bugs and some UI issues, plus fixes some airplane behavior and especially the autopilots. It also fixes a bunch of the autogen protocols, especially involving bridges, so those will look a bit better.

The second update is a USA scenery update. This won't download automatically, you have to go to the Store page to find it and download it from there (it's free though). The USA update fixes a bunch of landmarks and a couple of larger areas - for instance, Las Vegas's night time lighting is fixed and looks brilliant, and some hand-made models have been placed in Washington DC such as the Capitol, WH, and the Washington Monument which if you've seen it in the game before by default is like a ridiculously skinny office building. ^^

Word of god is that the next scenery update being worked on is the UK, and that comes out early next year.

Here is a video showing some of the updated USA landmarks:

The steam reviews all say great game but major problems and hours to get it to download.

Hehehe okay!

So, VR was added a little while ago, and it and the rest of the sim are still getting improvements - in fact, a great big update, Update 5, is coming out later this month. It's supposed to improve the sim performance by as much as 60% in some cases, in terms of using more CPU and less memory, and this is in part a result of the devs optimizing the simulator for its port to the XBox. Some other improvements are expected like fixes to the electronic flight displays in some of the planes, especially the Garmin units in the small planes - these things have so far been a little buggy and somewhat feature-limited in the sim compared to their real-life counterparts for kind of obvious reasons (I mean, the RL things' firmware is a couple of gigs as it is, lol), but they're working on them.

There's also a new big scenery pack coming up, like the USA one mentioned above. USA, Japan, Europe, and UK packs have already been released, and the next one that's coming up is for Scandinavia. These scenery packs are MASSIVE which is why they're not automatically added to the sim - they are free, but you have to select which ones you want and download them from the Marketplace. Speaking of which, the Marketplace is filling out rather nicely with a small amount of free addons and a number of paid ones from other developers - a lot of planes and several airports. There's also plenty of addons that you can find on the web and aren't necessarily in the actual Marketplace - for example there's an addon you can find which is a not-bad fix for a lot of the little issues with those Garmin displays that I mentioned.

Anyways so yeah the game is being actively developed and there's been a lot of improvements.

The Microsoft Flight Simulator team also announced today a one-of-a-kind expansion in partnership with Paramount Studios to coincide with the exciting launch of the new Top Gun: Maverick movie. More details on the experience will be revealed as the November 19 premiere of the movie and release of the expansion draw closer.

Part of it is shown at the end of this trailer.

Part of it is that you get to fly US Navy jets off of an aircraft carrier and land on one probably.

Here's how Microsoft Flight Simulator runs on Xbox Series X|S

Microsoft Flight Simulator looks poised for a graceful arrival on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, with impressive results, especially on the $299 console.
It runs at 4K 30 fps. Pretty steadily on the Series X.

Xbox Series X|S introduces a new "Discovery Flights" mode, instantly setting you off near various landmarks to casually fly around some vistas, without worrying about the sim.
