If a President (or other official) is removed after Impeachment, then they can be barred from holding federal office. If they are not convicted, that is the same as being found Not Guilty in a criminal trial, and therefore any penalty would be a due process violation.

I don't want unity. The fucking nutjobs are a lost cause, and meeting them halfway ... or meeting any of their demands .. only encourages them to try harder.

The only hope for the U.S. now is that their children feel the burning morbid embarassment of 'Dad regaling everyone with stale bad-even-for-dad-jokes' and devastatingly uncool attempts to use 'current lingo'... to the point where they're so embarrassed by their Qanon-deludied parents that great numbers of them rebel and go another way just to not be associated with that clusterfuck.

Biden's DOJ needs to refocus the FBI on domestic counter-terrorism. Most of Trump's cult is spineless, but there are a few who are willing and capable of carrying out terrorist attacks (as they have been attempting over the last couple of years) if left unchecked and they'll be motivated by Trump's election loss.

Even despite Trump's attempting to interfere, the FBI has been doing a hell of a job countering these guys, and they deserve the morale boost of a president who vocally supports their work.

Seila Law v. CFPB was one of the sillier cases in recent Supreme Court history. It used the absurd premise that the nation stood at risk of a runaway federal official going too far in safeguarding consumers from financial scams to reach what, in the near term, would be a perfectly comforting result. The president of the United States can now fire the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau at their discretion, and install a replacement more in line with their views.

For Joe Biden, this means that he can immediately terminate the tenure of Kathy Kraninger, the Mick Mulvaney protégé who has been irrelevant if not actively harmful in the cause of consumer protection. Previously, Kraninger would have been able to serve through the end of 2023 and could only be fired “for cause.” Although not doing her job would surely be a sufficient cause, the Supreme Court made this much easier for Biden. Kraninger can just be shown the door, on day one. Special thanks to the Supreme Court for that one.
Kraninger is not alone. A new report from the Revolving Door Project identifies numerous officials from critical agencies who can be fired, demoted, or otherwise removed from their jobs at the beginning of the Biden administration. This includes hundreds of U.S. attorneys and inspectors general, the leadership at the FBI and IRS, the general counsel of the National Labor Relations Board, the two top officials at the Social Security Administration, and the chairs of at least 12 multimember commissions. In particular, Biden could use this authority to completely transform the financial regulatory leadership, putting the deregulatory posture of the Trump years firmly in the past.

So Biden has now a new website with .gov domain - which is a good sign.

Here's what I think he should try do first while in office:
  • Undoing most executive orders Trump still might create; as far as I know it's a common sport of leaving US presidents to use this to leave some "presents" behind.
  • Re-funding and re-manning most of the authorities which Trump has greatly axed in his stupidity, like EPA, national park service, department of state and many, many more.
  • Getting rid of as many Trump minions as possible Trump has installed in the departments and other authorities.
  • Un-doing most of Trump's actions which lessened environmental protection.
  • Top priority in the interior: managing the pandemic crisis, finally supporting all states and not working against them.
  • Top priority in the exterior: finishing the trade war with China as well as redefining the relationships to Russia, North Korea and Iran. Biden looking like a love sick puppy at Putin is for sure a sight nobody wants to see. And for Russia and North Korea the relationships might become harder again compared to Trump.
Don't get me wrong though on China: the glory times of Chimerica is over, China is right now in its way to become as much technology independent from the West as possible. So the new normal between USA and China will be much different from the old normal, but the tensions should go away if possible. Both states need to find a new form of peaceful coexistence.
That's more than enough for startesr, and once done there'll be so much more to do...

All nice and good thoughts, but if the Republicans can hold the Senate, he might as well start with buying a coloring book or two for himself and Mrs Harris, to have something yo do, the first two years.

This is why I wrote "he should try".
