That's interesting. I couldn't try it due to a too many people on right now message. Most people on the second life forums think it is quite well done especially for a first attempt.

Yep, too many people. Which could mean 5 for all we know.

Testing during US prime time might not be the best time.
I gave it a go during the European morning (so during the US graveyard shift) and I must say, for a first public try, it is really good already.
It still lacks functionalities, I could not move objects in my home for instance, but loading times and graphics where great in my Firefox browser.

Kudos for the developers so far.

I only hope that they will not implement it in the usual Linden Lab Style™: Half finished and than call it a day.

The graphics are excellent and the rendering is fast even at the Library Tower of Primitives. Environments function properly. It times out after ten minutes and presents a client download screen. Well done so far. Agree with Sid we do.

and that they are finally allowing browser access to VM clients, if for no other reason, to provide mainstream demonstration and recruitment.

Didn't they take a stab at this before? I know I'm very familiar with the idea, but maybe I've confused it with some other project ....

Yes there have been a couple of attempts to do this in the past but the infrastructure wasn't sufficient and the cost was prohibitive. It's a good sign that they're keeping up with advances in hosting and delivery platforms and that they're willing to work with newer version of technology to expand adoption of The Grid.

edit: replaced senseless typing with "adoption"

I think it says something that LL are still doing serious development work related to SecondLife.
Also it feels notable that they are pushing that free Madpea thing right now. They are pushing this little, "Play games in the metaverse" idea that is popular in games like Fortnite and Roblox.

I must say that the graphics look better than the renderings on my own PC.

I really want to hate this, but so far I can't find it in me to do so. I can say that I never figured out how to localchat in the few minutes I tried it, though.

But 20fps and all the detail seems to be there -pretty snazzy, really!

Yeah, it works really well (though I miss my Firestorm settings!).

The reason to hate it will likely be that they will charge like $20/month for it when its official.
You may be giving the userbase more credit for rationality that is necessary.

For instance, "It's good WHICH MEANS THAT LL COULD HAVE DONE THIS ALL ALONG which proves LL SUCKS."

.... you get the drift.

(Full disclosure: I have certainly done far more than my fair share of bitching about LL. I'm sure some of it was rational ....)

On the other hand, LL has screwed the pooch (and users) so many times and in so many ways my sympathy for them is extremely limited.
