They are delusional enough to think they can still sell it? They should have before the PR desasters ...

To me this reads "The Lab is broke". 😿

Let's hope they just try to cut the losses (selling it at a loss still gives more return of investment than shutting it down).

I take it less as they are broke and more that they are cutting their losses but don't want the work done on Sansar to be a total waste.

Why would anyone buy Sansar?
Maybe because they will get SL too?

Maybe Ebbe should talk to Rod Humble and see if he still has any contacts with Sony. After all, Sansar was, like Blue Mars, essentially Playstation Home for the PC, (but with a VR option). While PS home was profitable, Sony said that regular users of home were very willing to spend money, Sony shut it down. Which is sad, because I liked Sodium, Nova Prime and I STILL have the jones for Saucer Pop. While there is no Home for the PS4, there are several "Home-ish" virtual worlds on PS4 that resemble Sansar, mostly by former Home-devs in the UK and Europe. (Home was a SCEE London Studio thing). IIRC none of them support PSVR.

I wonder if this will be like when I want to sell a plot of land because I don't want to keep paying the tier but three months later nobody has bought it and I'm still paying the tier so in the end I just abandon it.

Might as well be, but I would say: sell it to Trump's Space Farce as "training simulator".

The really interesting thing to know though is: was dropping Sansar Ebbe's idea, or did the board of directors have to force him?

If somebody else buys it and turns it into something like 'Second Life only better', would that be irony?
I think that would be easier and faster to do when they would start from scratch.
Sansar is a dead horse IMHO. Only someone who is capable to sell plots on the backside of Mars might be able to sell Sansar as the next new gadget.

It would be lovely if LL managed to get more than a fiver for Sansar, but as long as they're no longer pouring money into the thing I don't really mind how they get rid of it. There must be a rich idiot somewhere that they could convince :D

We should consider pooling our money and buying this thing. We can call it VirutalSansarVerseOne (VSVO). It would be an awesome 3D forum!

First, we need to figure out how much it is worth, starting with revenue. They have about 20 users, but there is no cost to play. Perhaps about 15% of those folks are creators. Assume one of those is a "Professional Creator" so that is 1200 USD per year, one is a "Super Creator" so there is another 360 USD per year, and one is a creator which is another 120 USD per year. That makes revenue 1680 USD per year. Looking forward five years, we can project the future value. Assuming a 5% growth, we are now up to about 11,430 USD.

Now that we have the future value for the revenue we have to figure out the costs to calculate the margins. So looking up the cost of two or so servers, and the cost of one developer....

oooooh.... I see.

You know, if they pay us to dispose of the rotting carcass of this thing by tossing it in the Bay, we can probably make a tidy little sum!

I don't see them having much luck - between Unity and Unreal Engine, why reinvent the wheel? Just use one of those as a base, and build a virtual world that way...
I thought that doing their own engine was a HUGE mistake, and I think that has proven to be true. While Sansar does have beautiful graphics - in some cases AAA quality video game graphics, the efforts that went into reinventing the wheel could have been spent on making Sansar more compelling.

And if they'd used the Unreal engine we could have had gibbing.
