I was just reading this thread on Twitter. The OP thinks Kavanaugh is pro-LGBT rights from the quote, the replies not so sure. He’s such a turd I’d be skeptical myself, but since we’re stuck with him, it would be nice if he wasn’t irredeemable.
So, opinions?

Being Pro-LGBTQ doesn't mean you can't also be a politically-regressive arsehole on all other counts. There's a sliding scale to this.
Kavanaugh probably has Log Cabin Republican friends or frat buddies. I'm as surprised as anyone, but it seems being gay is becoming mainstream even as the country fractures on racial lines.

And that brings us back to JK Rowling:

Defending trans rights, Supreme Court deals blow to religious right
If the court had ruled against Stephens, Bostock and Zarda, there's a not-small chance that would have opened the door to rolling back all manner of laws protecting people from sex discrimination. The rights of these individuals to be trans or be gay is the same right that allows a cisgender woman to wear slacks to work or allows a straight man to take up knitting as a hobby, even if those things might offend an employer's idea of proper gender expression.

The larger lesson here is that we're all in this together. The right of all women to live freely is strengthened by protecting the rights of trans women. No boss should be able to tell you you're not performing your gender right because of how you dress, how you act, whether you have kids, who you sleep with or what genitals you were born with. It's a lesson that Neil Gorsuch, of all people, was able to grasp. Surely J.K. Rowling can figure it out too.

The argument in the UK is a bit different, since our equalities law bans discrimination on the grounds of gender, with various exceptions that allow for (among other things) various facilities like single-sex bathrooms and changing rooms, women's refuges and so on.

In the UK, as a matter of law, your gender is normally that recorded on your birth certificate, unless a Gender Recognition Certificate is issued, in which case it becomes the gender recorded on the GRC and, while everyone agrees the procedure for issuing a GRC needs a complete overhaul since it was first introduced in 2004, there's heated debate about how it should be revised.

Not likely. She's clearly informed herself as much as she cares to and still believes throwing trans women under busses to be "Acceptable Collateral Damage" in her crusade to keep cis-women safe from dishonest/predatory/abusive cis-males who might use transgender protections to invade women's safe spaces.

And that brings us back to JK Rowling:
Do we have to?
Nope. We don't.

This is going to spread as precedent. If you can't discriminate on the basis of sex (hetero, homo, same, trans, asexual - take your pick), you can't repeal the ACA rule against the same based on religious mummery. It will also spread to state courts without protections against discrimination based on sex, based on the 14th Amendment in the same way marriage equality became national law.

The dismantling of hetero and cis privilege took a big step forward today. The floodgate just opened, and Hobby Lobby better start hiring more lawyers.

For me, the sweetest part of this victory at SCOTUS was having Gorsuch write the majority opinion. Imagine Jared Kushner having to explain to his bloated FIL that, "No, you can't actually fire a Supreme Court Justice - even the ones you appoint - and there's no such thing as an 'Acting Justice'."

Interesting... well here in Germany the Federal Constitutional Court decided in 2017 that aside male and female the state must accept a third gender, which is just being called diverse. Since then many templates and forms have been updated to that; job ads always contain now as gender m/f/d.

If somebody feels like a transgender and living in the wrong body the person can appeal for a test process, which takes several months consulting a psychologist and other specialists. If the psychologist confirms that you as a transgender person you are eligible for a transgender therapy.

The therapy is being paid by the common health insurances; this covers the hormone therapy and surgery as well, so you are not piling up debt for decades when undergoing it. The consulting period is to make sure that you will not regret that step later because it is just some mood from you.

We are only halfway there. The ruling hinted that there may be a conflict with the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Given the large number of US hospitals that are Catholic, Methodist, or Adventist, that leaves an invitation for further lawsuits.

The question is, at what point and how, should the Gender Recognition Certificate be issued.

The plan was -- and this is what has people like JKR so upset -- basically to demedicalise the process and allow people to self-certify as whatever gender they think they are, and to include non-binary as an option.

It is said that the Government is going to renegue on that, worried by the criticisms made by JKR and people who feel like her, but it remains to be seen what we up with.
