Kobe Bryant's widow, Vanessa Bryant, made her first public statement Wednesday, posting a long message on Instagram.

The latest news, I think it came out yesterday, was that although the pilot was IFR rated and the helicopter was as well (although, it turns out, the helicopter did not have a modern TAWS system installed), the actual operator - the company that owned and flew the helicopters - was not authorized to conduct IFR passenger flights. So flying IFR wasn't even an option on the day of, at least not for that helicopter.
