The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said on September 20 that Missouri’s ongoing investigation into a recent H5N1 avian flu infection involving no known animal contact has turned up a second health worker who had symptoms, but wasn’t tested.

The CDC said the second health worker wasn’t tested, because his or her illness had resolved before the investigation began.

I haven't been posting updates on this thread, despite following the news reports. Not, ironically enough, because I think this flu is unimportant, but because it's overwhelming in its implications.

There is an intersection between bird flu and our current political climate, which is the undocumented workers at many agricultural businesses. Because of fear of the part of the government that roots out immigration violations, farmers and laborers are avoiding reporting and are not cooperating with the part of government that is focused on disease prevention and investigation. You can't get ahead of what you don't know is happening.

Get your flu/covid vaccines, if you haven't already. Keep your stock of masks updated. More rough rides up ahead.
