It's 18 if the older partner is in a position of trust in relation to the younger -- basically various professions like teacher or social worker. Sports coaches and ministers of religion are (I think) in the process of being added to the list.

Exactly.

There are several threads of illegality involved in this. Underage girls is just one, but not the only one. She could be a fully-grown adult and he still can't legally transport her across state lines and pay her for sex.

Paying for sex is illegal in all parts of the US except some places in Nevada and while making porn videos. But the laws against prostitution are state laws. Going across state lines makes it a federal matter, and hence why the Justice Department cares.

It's...just a song. And in it, the worst that happens is that *he* dances with her. And falls in love, which is its own sort of danger, I guess. But what doesn't happen is anyone making the case about paying her for sex. Because it's a Beatles song.

There are some indications that two scandals roiling Florida politics may actually be connected, tying the federal probe of Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) to a slate of sham candidates that cropped up across the state in 2020.

In one, we have the rapidly emerging degeneracy of Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who is facing a federal probe into allegations that he paid for a 17-year-old to travel across state lines in exchange for sex. Meanwhile, the “wingman” who reportedly got Gaetz into this mess appears poised to enter into a cooperation agreement with the feds.

And in the other, there’s an equally bizarre but perhaps more typical political scheme: a plot to run sham candidates across Florida to siphon votes away from the Democratic Party candidates.

It’s not clear how closely the two are connected. But what may bring them together is a confluence of money, Gaetz’s political connections, and a man loudly bragging at a Florida bar.

So, if its Dosev, its probably isn't either. But there is at least something of a chance we might actually elect a non-republican; especially if the Dems run an actual progressive.

In 2018, the immigrant female pediatrician -almost beat an incumbent [Gaetz] in Escambia. When the dems ran a former republican, forer military, he didn't do near as well in 2020.

Actually, looking at the article....
None of them are likely to be an improvement - hell, Andrade is someone we consider to be likely to have been involved in this current mess, especially since they -are- friends. [He's also still, somehow, my state congresscritter, even after he tried to sell off -our- local beaches to corporate interests and got his ass handed to him.

$900 is pretty cheap to get somebody to lie to federal prosecutors, especially an 18 year old. Ask any 18 year old if they would rather have $900 or take down a douchebag congressman and get internet famous doing it, and I think most would reject the $900.
