A good reminder that LL never banned Gachas in the first place out of any moral objection:

Gacha Policy Changes for 2024: What You Need to Know

"We’re excited to announce an important update to our policy regarding the use of gachas and similar mechanisms in Second Life... Residents can once again engage in gacha-based sales, but with a key new rule: gacha items, including the boxes or containers they come in, must not be transferable. This means that once you purchase a gacha item, it is yours and cannot be passed on to other users.

"At Linden Lab, we believe in giving our Residents the freedom to engage in a wide range of activities in Second Life. The changes in the legal climate surrounding gachas and loot boxes have allowed us to relax our restrictions while still maintaining protections for our community."

No Transferability: Gacha items and their containers must be set as “No Transfer” to ensure that they can only be used by the buyer.
Aha, there goes the resale market!

This just brings them back and makes them worthless and a waste of L$ if you can't get what you want without putting thousands of L$ into a machine to get the rare that has the colors and options you really want. Before...you just had to hope a reseller was selling it...for thousands of L$.

Say it with me: “Gacha is Satan, not Satin, and we want Satin not Satan. Hail Satin!

I don't have a strong moral objection to Gachas, but certainly find them VERY annoying. So I'm much less than pleased. I kind of think it's the creator's right to be an annoying little asshole with them but I was enjoying their absence.

I mean, why can't they just sell things.

Like there is an entire resale market, people will buy this 50L thing for 300L, because they don't want to play the gambling crap. So why not just sell them dorect for say, 150L.

I don't understand, other than, oh yeah, the whales, the same problem with mobile games and loot box ganing in general. Because there will always be 1 person spending shitloads and making up 90% of the sales trying to gamble.

With no resale/giftable option, I don't expect gachas to come roaring back to the grid.
It's the main way I had any use for gachas, buying the full set from a reseller since often it was a gacha set that came with... matching footwear.

The other was cute little gift things.

Never had any use for no copy items. Still don't have any use for them.

Are there any open source gachas? I've always wanted to make one that, once an item is delivered, so long as the same person is playing the gacha items would be steadily removed until all items in a set are delivered and the odds of receiving a rare steadily increase towards 100%

So its random, but you don't get the same one twice?

I think the rral trick there is that it would need some sort of off grid backend to store all that data right?

Or is the "no repeats" just for that session for that person, because that would probably be doable.

Just for the session, until a different person is using it.
