Friend List Fixes Allegedly Rolling Out

I posted a thread on the SL forums about how fucking shitty the friend list has become this year. It is absurd that such a basic feature is frequently broken, from no one appearing online to phantom friends showing online that aren't or the opposite, Someone posted an update that a fix is rolling out. If it has stayed broken this long, I don't have much faith that it will actually be fixed.

The issues with the friend list continue to worsen. People who are online often show as offline and conversely people show as online who are not. Somehow at LL the saying "Never fix what isn't broken" converted into "Never fix what is broken."
But still, if it turns out to be fixed: Kudos for The Lab.

Just a guess from what I've observed in my niche universe, but there might be some consolidation going on.

I actually kind of wish they had a mechanism to prune dead groups. Or even just transfer ownership to active users or something to revive them. I suppose the ownership bit get dicey if land happens to be involved.

KHAMON WOULD LOVE TO REVIVE A FEW OLD GROUPS WITH LONG GONE OWNERS AND… why am I speaking HEX…do the friends and groups mechanisms still broadcast requests to The Grid to see if any sim reports that person online? Surely not, but, Linden Lab.

The problem with groups and group chats is one of scalability. When groups were designed originally, they were fairly casual - so the underlying technology does not scale well. As SL is built on a house of legacy code cards, it is why group chat fails so spectacularly and larger groups moved to Discord. Twenty years in, it is an absolute wonder that SL works as well as it does, flaws and all. It must be a nightmare to maintain and update.
