Someone already did an input device based on movements in the tendons of the wrist. I remember reading about it years ago.
Yup, there was - it was kind of like a little exo skeleton thing for your hand - but no real support for it, I think [or else the owner got bored with it like everything else he'd get that was new ech.]

This one was basically a fat wristband. You're thinking of the Nintendo Power Glove, no?

Nope, this one was for a PC, and I'd not be surprised if we still had it around here somewhere, and if I can find it, I'll get a picture - iirc it had like a frame that went along where the different hand bones are, but its been years since I've seen it - so who knows [like I think this was from the early 2000s?]

Well, it's not what I was talking about. There were quite a number of articulated frameworks like that, before and after the power glove, but this one was distinct that it just sensed the tendons as they moved the fingers. It didn't enclose the hand at all.

Sheryl Sandberg and Mark Zuckerberg can put cement shoes on and jump off a cargo ship in the middle of the Atlantic. Preferably as a rogue wave approaches them.

For a Nintendo System?

Because I think I vaguely remember what you are talking about but I can't find and pictures or anything and I wonder if it was ever released.

It had a base, with a sort of flip of sensor panel and maybe an arch that you stuck your hand in and worked like a Power Glove without the Power Glove. Or heck maybe that was just part of the Power Glove and no one ever talks about the base.

I have no idea, it was just an article I read, maybe even on physical dead tree stuff. No, I don't know if it ever made it to market.

Looks like they're trying to get people interested in animated versions of their "avatars" that your can use in a background for a post. I don't usually birther with them because they're usually either way happier than I am or rah-rah-rah sports.
The effect is like a poor imitation of a Pixar movie. Yawn.

Yeah, but that's like owning a receipt, not actually owning you. *nods*

(I like how people who never made money off of their images becoming memes have made money through NFT (like the young girl standing before a burning house), but otherwise NFTs are . . . quite confusing as something to be "bought")).

Horizons is still showing as invite only. Has anybody here gotten an invite yet?

I'm fairly sure after even the smallest bit of correctly executed user testing, they concluded they have something absolutely terrible.

I checked it out today. It's not great, but you know... typical kids world. They seem to be going after Rec Room's market share, which is to say they ripped off an old virtual world named There, which was actually a pretty fun place, while it existed.

Then I saw this article about virtual groping in Horizons, and I couldn't help but laugh. I mean, I guess groping or bumping into somebody might be more of a problem in head mounted virtual worlds, and that can be triggering, so I don't want to totally dismiss it... but it just seems really weird. It's not like we have haptic feedback, where you can feel groping, unless they hack your teledildonics or something. Think about it, of all the wild complaints we've all heard about SL, have you ever heard of anybody in SL seriously complain about groping? It's such a non-issue in SL, we don't even really have any features to stop it from happening. Groping seems like a minor issue, compared to coming back after getting up for a coffee to find a cube on your head! Maybe groping in Horizons is analagous to vampire bites in SL?

There used to be a scripted gadget that ran a humping animation while moving you to another avatar, but it's been easily a decade since I saw it in play.

The Oculus community is all excited, because the Oculus app is number 1 on the app store. When you get a new Oculus, you can't sign in without this app on your phone, so this is a sign of high Oculus hardware sales.

Rumor has it, Oculus is supposed to totally get rid of the FB account requirement some time in 2022, and some claim that right now, you can call FB and have them delink your FB account from Oculus. I might do that after the holiday call volume has died down a bit.

Also, I tried Horizons the other day. It's not incredible, but it's competently made. The visual scripting set up is interesting to tinker with. The Horizons facebook group is pretty active, which is nice, but there's this weird meme there lately, where people like to post a picture where the left half is their Horizon avatar and the right half is a RL photo of themselves. IDK why but that meme strikes me as bizarre.

I didn't read through all this because it starts like a business news writer talking about tech. 💩

Horizon Worlds limits capacity to 20 people per world before automatically placing users in another replica of that world; perhaps there were simply too many people in the Plaza one of us had entered.
