I don't understand why they would bother. I feel like photoshopping smoke over an actual photo of these buildings would be way more accurate and accomplish the same stupid end game.

Because AI Generated gets more headlines. Bad photoshop is early 2000's clickbait.

The problem is, people like my mom think people like Musk are brilliant because people like Musk buy people saying these things, and my mom and others like her won't listen to their kids.... >.>

Can't be bothered with shit like this, too busy turning Twitter into the everything app!

Twitter has withdrawn from the European Union’s Code of Practice on online disinformation, per the bloc’s internal market commissioner, Thierry Breton.

In a tweet last night — which confirmed earlier reports of Twitter’s impending exit from the EU Code — Breton issued the social media platform with a blunt warning: Telling Twitter it cannot hide from incoming legal liability in this area.

“Twitter leaves EU voluntary Code of Practice against disinformation. But obligations remain. You can run but you can’t hide,” Breton wrote — a reference to obligations the platform is legally required to comply with as a so-called very large online platform (VLOP) under the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA).

I still think he can't quite be as stupid as his posts would suggest at face value. I think he has an agenda with his routine. That said, I am not saying he's doing a good job of achieving that agenda. Being a successful right wing grifter is arguably a huge demotion from where he was a couple years ago.

Musky's little misappropriated review of television looks a lot like John Oliver's review in 2018 of the right-wing broadcasting monolith Sinclair Broadcast Group's propaganda campaign tactics:

AOC is quite angry about Musk right now: there's a new parody account on Twitter named AOCpress, which is spitting utter nonsense.Under Musk's new rule such accounts are ok, as long as they've got parody in their description.

AOCpress also has a blue verification label, while AOC has a grey one - this is already hard to grasp on the desktop, the official Twitter app on smartphones even does not display parody as part of the name. AOCpress is also a trending account on Twitter due to its algorithm.

Musk even reacted to one of the messages of the fake account (the one below), which AOC also dislikes.

Twitter was once a mainstay of academic research — a way to take the pulse of the internet. But as new owner Elon Musk has attempted to monetize the service, researchers are struggling to replace a once-crucial tool. Unless Twitter makes another about-face soon, it could close the chapter on an entire era of research.

“Research using social media data, it was mostly Twitter-ology,” says Gordon Pennycook, an associate professor of behavioral science at the University of Regina. “It was the primary source that people were using,”
Until Musk’s takeover, Twitter’s API — which allows third-party developers to gather data — was considered one of the best on the internet. It enabled studies into everything from how people respond to weather disasters to how to stop misinformation from spreading online. The problems they addressed are only getting worse, making this kind of research just as important as ever. But Twitter decided to end free access to its API in February and launched paid tiers in March. The company said it was “looking at new ways to continue serving” academia but nevertheless started unceremoniously cutting off access to third-party users who didn’t pay. While the cutoff caused problems for many different kinds of users, including public transit agencies and emergency responders, academics are among the groups hit the hardest.
"Twitter-ology". Hrm...

Using something like Twitter for academic research will cause me to discount the research.

They never ever take the pulse of those who do not join such sites. There are probably more of us. 🤷‍♀️
