The problem is that the motivation behind wanting to burn the rebel flag is an attempt by the left to distance themselves from the nasty history of the democrat party. If I were the member of a party that was responsible for fighting a war to preserve slavery and the KKK I would want to erase history too.

It's lovely watching someone fight a debate with a political party from 55 years ago.

Kinda like how the party that claims credit for the Voting Rights Act and the Civil Rights Act destroyed both of them.

Sometimes you don't ban a flag. Sometimes, you just replace it.

Things that happened 55 years ago are important, it matters how we got here.
About that time, Strom Thurmond dropped out of the Democratic party and became a Republican because the Dems were just not racist enough for him anymore.

So you're right. It does matter how we got here.

At any rate let the record show that all slaveholders were democrats and they fought a war with the republican north to preserve slavery. Democrat party owns responsibility for the KKK almost all democrats. Slavery wasn't an american problem as much as a democrat party problem.

Holy shit, Bubba's onto something. Do not erase history! Instead, let's knock all them statues down and replace with with statues of Harriet Tubman, John Brown, David Walker, Benjamin Lundy, William Lloyd Garrison, and a whole lot more. :)
Good idea we should at least have statues for the people you listed, especially John Brown, add Booker T Washington and Frederick Douglass

For the class, that was an example of non-sequitur. So's this:

The good news is that I think covid 19 will pass and everything will be back to normal in less than a year. Big fan of Booker T. Washington and his books, Frederick Douglass autobiography where he stands up to his master and escapes slavery is another good one.

I can see the point that there should be more abolitionist statues and black heroes from the various eras, but I can only accept taking down the existing ones by a vote at least, not by the ignorant mob for political stunts.

It matters? How? In helping us avoid repeating past mistakes? Great.

So explain to me why the republicans are so keen on repeating the Democrat's past atrocities, and why dem's are committed to a better path?
