Presumably, given enough time, the world's temperatures will revert to a mean average, simply by the laws of mathematics.
When thinking in geological time frames we are living right now in an ice age - because there's an ice shelf at top and bottom of the globe. The phase of this ice age we're living right now again is the holocene, which is the current warm period.

When living in an ace age, warm and cold periods do change swap periodically, roughly 80000 years its colder and then 20000 years warmer. Our warm period started around 12000 years ago. This is being called the Milankovic cycle.

So Earth is always changing between warm and cold ages, and cold ages again changing between warm and cold periods.

So far in the planets history there were 6 ice ages, which lasted roughly around 525 million years. We're living right now in the Late Cenozoic Ice Age, which started roughly 39 million years ago. This means in the long run Earth is always moving between icehouse and greenhouse earth hence and forth.

Actually, according to what I've seen, the peak for the warm period was quite a bit ago, we're -supposed- to be in the cooling phase, except we started burning oil and coal 200 or so years ago.

A solar panel the size of a pizza oven?
They actually stuck it in an oven during testing - the cylinder behind the people. Thermal-vacuum testing is standard for space hardware. This is just a small-scale prototype. It's aboard the secret X-37B spaceplane mini-shuttle in orbit right now. We only know about it because the DOD did a press release. A full-up power beaming system would be much much larger, like a Walmart parking lot or more.

Since 2015, central banks, or some of them, certainly including the Bank of England, have been insisting that lenders include a project's environmental costs when undertaking risk assessments and valuing assets before making lending decisions, so as to ensure that clean up costs are borne by the polluter, not the community.

But that doesn't help with these now-defunct wells, of course.

So does earth start to fiddle with the radiator knobs?
That could mean long and cold winters around the North Sea in the future.

I think more extreme and unpredictable weather, too, which, combined with rising sea levels, might be bad news for people living around the North Sea and the Atlantic in areas prone to flooding.

Like almost the entire state of Florida.

The plus side, its most of the state of florida... the downside is, its most of the state of florida....

I'm worried about storms coming in off the Atlantic -- they cause severe flooding inland while both they and storms in the North Sea give coastal towns and villages a severe battering every winter.

Combine that with rising sea levels, and it's bad news all round.

Infrastructure is designed and built with various assumptions about the weather in mind, and when those assumptions cease to apply, then there's trouble, compounded by the fact that a lot of the infrastructure needs repairing and updating anyway.

New York City is having to face this too. Manhattan faces New York Bay, which connects to the Atlantic Ocean. The general plan is to build dykes near the waterfront, disguised as parks. The problem is Manhattan is full of tunnels, some of which go under the rivers. It may turn out that burying the subways, which used to be elevated above the streets (and still are in places), was a bad idea.

It's well known in science that for more than a century hurricane activity in the Atlantic Ocean has oscillated between active and inactive periods, each lasting a few decades. For the past couple of decades, meteorologists and climate scientists have believed that this ebb and flow was due to a natural warming and cooling cycle built into the climate system called the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation, or AMO.

The term was coined in the year 2000 by world-renowned climate scientist Dr. Michael Mann, distinguished professor of atmospheric science at Penn State University and author of the new book "The New Climate War." The concept of the AMO has become ubiquitous in explanations and forecasts of active or inactive hurricane seasons.
But today, in a newly released paper in the journal Science, the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation may have been dealt a deadly blow — by the very man who named it. Mann now concludes the AMO is very likely an artifact of climate change, driven by "human forcing" from rising carbon emissions in the modern era and "natural forcing" due to massive volcanic eruptions in pre-industrial times.
