The Camp Fire burning in the Chico area of Butte County has grown to 149,000 acres with 55 percent containment. The death toll increased to 76 as five more bodies were found Saturday. The number of missing is 1,276, though officials indicated there are duplicate entries with different spellings on the list, and that many people may not realize they are on the list. The number of structures burned is at 12,794, of which 9,891 are residences.

The Woolsey Fire along the Ventura - Los Angeles County line near Thousand Oaks continues to be held at 98,362 acres, with containment improving to 84 percent. The number of structures damaged or destroyed continues to rise as officials continue to assess the burn area. So far, 1,008 structures have been destroyed and 271 have been damaged.

The Briggs Fire in the Santa Paula area of Ventura County is now fully contained after having burned 150 acres, according to the Ventura County Fire Department. No structures were damaged in the fire.

It not only has happened before, it will continue to happen. It has nothing to do with forest mismanagement, and everything to do with extreme drought conditions and people living in places that are prone to disaster. The only way he could be right (and even a broken clock, yadda yadda), is a disaster of this magnitude has killed a lot of people. A lot more than we were prepared for.

And that's because the fire's ferocity and speed took everyone by surprise. It started in the morning, and by the time kids were in school that morning, they were being piled into teachers' cars and evacuated, because winds and dry conditions exploded that fire into a devouring beast.

Seriously. There are a shit load of plants and trees indigenous to this state that germinate only with fire. It's just the nature of the beast. BUT, climate change IS a contributing factor. We are two months into our rainy season, and the most moisture we've seen is some condensation on our vehicles in the morning. And that's only happened three times since September. Yes, I counted.

Trump can blow his forest raking out his ass. Finnish forest and California forests is apples and oranges. As far as I know, Finland is much, much wetter than northern California. They're much less likely to have devastation like this, because their climate is vastly different.

The Camp Fire burning in the Chico area of Butte County has grown slightly to 150,000 acres, a slowed growth that may be a sign firefighters are gaining the upper hand on the blaze. It is now 65 percent contained. The death toll now stands at 77, and will likely continue to rise as more bodies are discovered in the burn area. 13,774 structures have burned, 10,364 of them being residences. 993 persons are still declared missing.

The total acreage for the Woolsey Fire burning along the Ventura-Los Angeles County line east of Thousand Oaks has been amended to 96,949, while containment increased to 91 percent. 1,452 structures have burned, with another 337 damaged by the fire. These numbers will continue to rise as the assessment of the burn area is still ongoing.

The death toll from the fire increased as well, now at 79. 699 people still remain in missing status. 15,573 structures are now being reported as destroyed, 11,713 of them residences. Rain is expected in the area Wednesday, which will help with the firefighting efforts, but will hinder body recovery efforts and trigger mudslides in the area.

Yeah, it's going to be like watering a house plant with a firehose. That much rain is going to cause some terrible mudslides. Plus, all that water mixing with all that ash is going to make cleanup and recovery extremely difficult.
