Germany is taking over the chair of the EU, and Merkel puts the brexit negotiation ball on the British side of the court.

“With Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the British government wants to define for itself what relationship it will have with us after the country leaves,” Merkel said. “It will then have to live with the consequences, of course, that is to say with a less closely interconnected economy.

“If Britain does not want to have rules on the environment and the labour market or social standards that compare with those of the EU, our relations will be less close. That will mean it does not want standards to go on developing along parallel lines.”

Dain Shan: already posted by myself two days ago in the specific thread:

Meanwhile some announcements by Angela Merkel: "UK must live with consequences of weaker ties to EU."

Poland should get less from Covid-19 fund due to rights record, claim EU member states
Danish PM among those who say rule of law and LGBT rights issues mean a tougher line should be taken with Poland

The EU’s pandemic recovery fund risks being derailed after an outcry within the bloc that Poland is set to be one of the biggest recipients despite its government’s attacks on the judiciary and LGBT community.
The Polish economy has been one of the least affected by the coronavirus crisis and Warsaw has faced heavy criticism over its approach to the rule of law but estimates suggest Poland will still only be behind Spain as the major winner from the rescue fund.

I just feel numb. The world makes no sense. What did they think was going to happen?

'They' thought that the UK would keep all the rights and pleasures they are in favor off, but no longer had to worry about the rights and duties they disagree with.
And that Brussels would pay for all that. And of course showing the Krauts who is ruling the waves.

Or something like that.
And unicorns, definatelly a whole herd of them.

Mark Francois, the head of the European Research Group (ERG) in the Tory party, so the hard core Brexiteer group, wrote a letter to Michel Barnier. Why? Because he's feeling too much unnoticed probably, that's why. Its content? You decide.

Who cares what the man writes. He is not in the negotiation teams is he?
He should write to his PM or Santa Claus (depending on in who he has more beliefs.)

Barnier and the EU will not be impressed.
They simply watch how the Brits keep kicking the can down the road, if I understand Merkel correctly.

They have Google in the UK, don't they? :hellokitty:
Perhaps the English are simply accustomed to having their servants perform those sorts of menial tasks.
