Interesting article about his campaign. I don’t know that much about him, but I am thinking he might have a shot at beating the POS in the general.

A veteran of President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton’s campaigns now working for Bloomberg says the biggest difference between the Bloomberg organization and other Democratic campaigns (aside from the size and budget) is its data and digital operations.
“In the six years since 2012, Republicans have really caught up and surpassed Democrats in data and digital,” Kanninen says. Because the candidate himself is volatile, irrational and unhinged, people might underestimate President Trump’s campaign. But Kanninen says that Democrats ignore at their peril how “exceptional” is the Trump campaign. Kanninen is convinced that gaps in these areas is “why we lost in 2016.” With a candidate who founded an information and technology company, Bloomberg’s team claims to have the best digital and data systems of any campaign, which is what it thinks will be needed to go “toe to toe” with Trump.

Just having a good tool at your disposal does not mean you are able to use it. IMHO it needs more than some mystified secret sauce to be able to win the election as the Democrat's candidate against Trump, you need to win back the hearts of the people Trump catched. And this is something you cannot achieve alone with tons of money.

Quinnipiac today puts him at 15%. So, it’s working. What has worried me is that not only do the Rs cheat their way to victory but their tech use is allegedly light years ahead of D’s.

In any case Bloomberg says he will put all his resources behind the candidate.

Also, Bloomberg seems to me to potentially appeal to a broad base. I personally like Bernie but his base may not be as inclusive. I can’t afford to think in terms of whose policies I like best.

Bloomberg may appeal to a broad base, but so does Joe Biden. In the end people are winning an election, not tech. Tech is only a tool for market research and getting your message under the people, nothing more, nothing less.

I love Biden but he is fading fast.

People using all tools at their disposal win, esp when there Is no one candidate that stands clearly above all others.

Maybe, but don't we forget that one beloved and powerful tool in American presidential (pre)-elections which not necessarily does costs lots of money or needs lots of tech is the good old smear campaign.

There is no Trump smear campaign too vicious for me. On Twitter someone suggested a How Low Can He Go compilation ad. That of course would be no deterrent to trump lovers since they approve of his disgusting behavior.

The issue with Trump is that such a campaign against him does not work; it will make him only stronger instead unless there is live footage which shows him hurting a white woman maybe. You would need a real charismatic person as competitor to be able to dethrown him, because based on facts alone and how little his achievements are in reality and how much the national debt increased due to him by now nobody will get a majority.

I should have said, Trump voters don’t care unless they are suburban women.

He used to be an R.
He didn't leave the Republican Party, the Republican Party left him.

He might absorb the voters that were going for Biden and Buttigieg. It works in his favor that there are so many candidates.

I hope Warren or Sanders do well in NH.

And here it is:

Quinnipiac poll Feb 5-9:

Bloomberg beats Trump 51-42
Sanders beats Trump 51-43
Biden beats Trump 50-43
Klobuchar beats Trump 49-43
Warren beats Trump 48-44
Buttigieg beats Trump 47-43

Thats national, which doesn’t really matter, but is an indicator.
What matters is swing states.

A Democrat runnerup who is a fan of Ronald Reagan... m'kay.
It's not to do with being a fan of Reagan but with the kind of people he's trying to reach with his advertising (presumably he hopes this kind of tweet will go viral and reach a wider readership).

Reagan, rightly or wrongly, was certainly a Republican who appealed greatly to working-class white Democrats and people who tended to vote Democrat, and who now seems to remembered as quite a benign, well-intentioned old grandfatherly figure. In Europe we had a more rounded view of him at the time, I agree, but I lived on both sides of the Atlantic while Reagan was in office, and I remember what I saw.

He also stood up to the Soviet Union, famously telling President Gorbachev to tear down that wall.

The comparisons with Trump are obvious and not to Trump's advantage.

The more he can get people who supported Trump in 2016 to compare him with Reagan, or Reagan as he's remembered by many people (particularly ones who don't remember him so well), the better, to my mind.

Also, the comparison is bound to infuriate Trump and the more time Trump spends fuming and pursuing private feuds on Britter out of injured pride, the more uncommitted voters are likely to see how uncontrolled, immature and unreliable he is.

If I had to choose between Biden and Bloomberg, I'd pick Bloomberg. Biden's heart just isn't in it. He's going through the motions, but he reminds me of Jeb Bush -- running because other people expect it of him. Kinda sorta okay with it... which just isn't enough when you're running for president.

From what I've heard, Bloomberg is not a dynamic speaker. He's not especially charismatic or charming. I don't care; he's a reasonably intelligent person who isn't a raving sociopathic narcissist.

And much as I would love to usher in a new enlightened age of democratic socialism... I'm beginning to think that someone who is dead center pragmatic is what this country needs right now to remember what we share in common.

Still watching "stop n frisk but apologized so it's okay now lol" Bloomberg closely.

That competent autocrat waiting in the wings taking notes? The one we worried about a couple years back? Yeah, watching this guy close.
