Fuck that headline.

The man who called the Glendale, California, police department at 1:52 pm on September 30, 2015, said his name was Alex. In a quiet, almost childlike voice, he stated that he’d placed several backpacks containing bombs inside the news studio of KABC-TV, adjacent to Griffith Park. The bombs would be remotely detonated in 10 minutes.
Fuck that article.

Yeah, fuck that article and its talk about that guy's sad eyes.

That asshole is a domestic terrorist who utilizes the malfunctioning law enforcement system in the US to cause mayhem. I don't need to read a pulp novel to figure that out.

Socially inept white male gamer with a total lack of empathy and a bunch of mental issues, starts his stint of domestic terrorism by calling in bomb threats to get his gamer buddies out of school. Threatens to kill his own grandmother if she reports him to the police; grandma gets restraining order against her own grandson. Eventually thinks he is a god and untouchable and ends up murdering, via swatting, some random idiot kid because some other idiot gamer who taunted him and gave him the address of the random kid. Thinks he is a badass for making $700 for calling in swattings and bomb threats for other idiot gamers.

Sorry to disappoint anyone, but the asshole terrorist didn't prank anyone, as indicated by the poorly written article.

Ugh. This young man, actually a few young men, but to focus on the man who considers himself an uber-swatter needs to face some kind of punishment. He, obviously, has not had any consequences for his behaviors in the past. He, still, shows no remorse and a penchant for considering himself some kind of internet-king, evidenced by his accessing the internet via Windows 10, while in jail, and threatening to swat whomever.

The article states that plea negotiations may be underway which could delay or even get the manslaughter charge dismissed.

What a shiftless young man; No job, threatening his grandmother, living only by his wits and the government. He should have faced consequence when he threatened his grandmother, he should have faced consequence when he called in numerous bomb threats in the past.

As to the police, I wish the mother of the swatting victim well. I hope that she is able to get some form of peace. She's not going to get it in the form of any prosecutions. Swatting would not work if we didn't have police departments that shoot first, ask questions later and protect themselves at all cost from any repercussion. Yet, I hold any person who swats equally culpable. They know how the police operate and count on it.

According to the article, he did:
Barriss’ swatting career was interrupted by his arrest for the KABC-TV bomb threats. He pleaded no contest to two felony counts of making a false bomb report and was sentenced to two years and eight months in the Los Angeles County Jail. With credit for time served and good behavior, he was released on January 20, 2017.

The next day, Barriss was arrested for illegally entering his grandmother Wendy’s house. According to police, Gregory lived in constant fear of her grandson and had taken out a protective order against him. Barriss pleaded no contest to violating that order and was sentenced to another 364 days in jail.
Also according to the article, the FBI seem to be planning to prosecute him over his other bomb threats, which is what the plea deal may be about.

The cops need to stop this militarized behavior. This is not a militarized zone, this is a free country made up of many communities. Community police, even swat, needs to treat it as such and be trained to handle PEOPLE and NOT enemy combatants! Policing is a dangerous job, either face that or GTFO. Police should be trained on how to minimize destruction and on how to be cautious but it has gone WAY beyond that. Now they are trained to shoot first and ask questions later and our communities are suffering greatly for it.

edited to say that I agree what others have said about the man who sent the swat team out. I just wanted to comment that this would not be a "thing" if the cops were better trained.
