Not sure if anyone is following this. I am, because the Los Angeles Dodgers have been my favorite team since I was old enough to know what baseball is.

Anyways, it's the Dodgers vs. the New York Yankees this year. The last time I remember these two teams meeting in the World Series was in 1981, when I was 12. The Dodgers have so far won the first two games in this best-of-seven match up, and in dramatic fashion. In game 1 yesterday, they broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the 10th inning with a walk-off grand slam. In game 2 this evening, the Dodgers escaped a harrowing situation in the top of the 9th where the Yankees had the bases loaded, to win 4-2.

The next three games will be played in New York. It'll be interesting to see if that plays to the Yankees' advantage, or if the Dodgers win the series in a four-game sweep.

I watched it because I always watch the WS, but to be honest - both LA and the Yankees are pretty low on my favorite teams list, lol. In fact, my favorite team is Cleveland and my second-favorite are the Mets, so this year's playoffs were not the best time for me. XD

But, the Yankees are lower than LA on the list, so I was hoping the Dodgers would win. I kind of wish they had swept it, but hey winning is winning. It WAS fun watching New York blow a 5-to-nothing lead, I'll admit. And also just a whole bunch of weird mistakes. Like, I don't think I'd ever seen a "disengagement violation" before tonight...

This is one of those ball chasing sporty sport sportz yes? But the Dodgers are an American team (I know this!) so that's good. What other countries are involved in the World Series?

So more North American Series than World but, you know, American terminology.
We'll help you pronounce your country or city's name, though.

Russians: Moskva. Americans: Nope. Moss-koh. Unless its in Idaho, then moss-cow.
French: Pah-ree. Americans: Wrong-o, Frenchy. That Pair-us.
Indians: It's Mumbai -- moom-BYE. Americans: Bombay! And, by the way, it's cal-CUT-uh, not that coal-Caht-ah gibberish.
Chinese: Song-hai. Americans: Shang-hi! Yer pronunciation got Shanghaied! Har de har har har!
Mexico: May-hee-koh. Americans: Yeah, buddy, looks like Mecks-ee-koh to us. We'll go with that.

Basically, we're a nation of assholes.

Oh yeah, even when we supposedly attempt to be better we still manage to screw things up. Like when we finally started attempting to name places in the US their actual native names, a lot of times the people doing the naming didn't even bother to try and find out and just made up a "native-sounding" name. Like the name of the state Idaho - no, that was never actually a native word for anything.

There's more than one state with no rigorously verifiable origin of their name, such as Oregon.

How the hell do you forget how you named an entire STATE -- or, in Oregon's case, a whole TERRITORY?

Traveler: Howdy! Say, how come y'all call this here place Oh-ree-GONE?

Oregonian: It's OR-y-gun.

Traveler: Oh, I see. So, why's it OR-y-gun? What's it mean?

Oregonian: How about you mind your own damn business and move along to California! Pester them about THEIR name, why don'tcha?

It's Irish. O'Regon.

Here's a helpful guide:
I once had Thanksgiving dinner with someone who spoke of "Warshinton nut pie."

?????????

It turned out to be pecan pie.

He was from Kansas.

Pecans do not even dream of growing in Washington State.

W.T. Actual. F?

This will probably be my "Rosebud" on my deathbed.

"What did she say?"

"Sweartagod it was 'Warshinton nut pie.'"

"........ OK. Whatever." *camera moves to laptop showing this thread. A hand closes the laptop, shutting it down*
