"Asteroid 2018VP1 is very small, approximately 6.5 feet, and poses no threat to Earth. If it were to enter our planet's atmosphere, it would disintegrate due to its extremely small size," NASA said in a statement.
So the chance that it hits and damages 45's house in Florida is zero.

Just to clarify, one of the reasons I didn't name the thread after this one news items is that it is -- as everyone has pointed out -- not that big a threat. But it's entirely fitting of 2020. This is the bin for the minor bumps of 2020, in between the mountains.

You thought that by not naming the thread after this one article you could avoid all the «actually»‘s. Alas... ☺

Let's see, so far in 2020, we've had:

  • Covid-19
  • Murder hornets
  • Mass fires in the western US
  • Large scale civil unrest in the US
  • Explosion in Beirut
  • A (tiny) meteor headed for us
I'm sure I'm missing stuff. My mind has been blocking a lot of it lately.

Fires in australia - that started us off....

Oh, and two potential hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico at the same time

Is this the right thread for the Snyder cut of Justice League?

So far only Covid-19 will make it into the history schoolbooks made in the future.
Or Black Lifes Matter has to make real changes over the next years, than that might get a few lines in as well.

The events in Belarus will make it into the history books, especially if Lukashenko is deposed.
The explosion in Beirut will have a Wikipedia page.
The riots in the USA will be footnotes in a Black Lives Matters Wikipedia page under constant revision wars.
Fires, floods, hurricanes, meteors, plagues of locusts, those won't stand out.

I think Belarus will only make the history books in Belarus if Lukashenko is deposed.
There is a possibility it makes it in history books all over the world, if it triggers a war in Europe.

2020 is the new 2012!
You know..... translations and numbers can make that sort of error - 'specially if the calender system being translated is running on a different rate than the one its being translated to....

That said, it certainly does feel like we're in a period of change - just hope its for the better.
