Yeah, but it's barely large enough to cause much in the way of damage or destruction. And the chance of it hitting us are amazingly low. Sadly.
So the chance that it hits and damages 45's house in Florida is zero."Asteroid 2018VP1 is very small, approximately 6.5 feet, and poses no threat to Earth. If it were to enter our planet's atmosphere, it would disintegrate due to its extremely small size," NASA said in a statement.
2018 VP1 is only 2-4 meters in diameter, so if it hits (240:1 odds against) it won't cause any meaningful damage. My worry is the media hype might keep some people at home.
You thought that by not naming the thread after this one article you could avoid all the «actually»‘s. Alas...Just to clarify, one of the reasons I didn't name the thread after this one news items is that it is -- as everyone has pointed out -- not that big a threat. But it's entirely fitting of 2020. This is the bin for the minor bumps of 2020, in between the mountains.
Fires in australia - that started us off....Let's see, so far in 2020, we've had:
I'm sure I'm missing stuff. My mind has been blocking a lot of it lately.
- Murder hornets
- Mass fires in the western US
- Large scale civil unrest in the US
- Explosion in Beirut
- A (tiny) meteor headed for us
You know..... translations and numbers can make that sort of error - 'specially if the calender system being translated is running on a different rate than the one its being translated to....2020 is the new 2012!
