No, it's worse than that. Instead of recognizing that broken windows policing is one of the biggest problems with law enforcement, and that they are enormous vampires of state budgets, he won't rise to the occasion, as usual. More body cameras is nice but we have seen that the cops do not care about that, they knowingly do this shit on camera.

Using dollars currently allocated for policing and putting it toward mental health, housing, etc. is a much better idea. But he won't elevate the conversation. Why should we expect one of the primary drivers of the carceral state to do anything to meaningfully undo it?

What you wanna do in politics is pick a slogan that is guaranteed to 100% energize the opposition and even scare the pee out of some of your supporters.

Like, say, "defund all the police." It's really even better than, "take away all the guns" or "I'm a Socialist." :cheer:
We really don't need a Democratic Party when we have people like you advocating for Republican positions and doing their work for them out of fear. They might call me names. People are calling you "Karen" behind your back, anyway. Why not stand for something that would actually change the world for the better?

I'm sure someone somewhere gives a shit what Colin Powell says.
Honestly? I care. I read his book because a boss's boss. sent out all the chapters and it was a good excuse to not work a bit at work for a little while each week. I think everything he said was very reasonable, and he acknowledges his mistakes over the years. And I think everything he said about Trump and the birtherism against Obama was on point. I will not defend everything about him, but he's still a respected public figure and worth more than nothing in the fight against the evil cheeto.

Looks like Bloomberg will have to apologize to Trump now.

Trump’s Slipping Polls Make GOP Holding Senate More Daunting
“Ultimately Senate Republicans’ fate will be tied to Trump and he’ll be judged by this,” said Jessica Taylor, Senate editor of the nonpartisan Cook Political Report. “When you have a president who dominates the news cycle in every way, it is hard to separate yourself.”

I still think he's going to try to steal it with election-night violence, using the "lone-wolf" tells to white supremacists he's been providing throughout his presidency.
It's still not going to work with the military against him.
By the time of the election, probably even more civil servants, intelligence, etc., will have reached the breaking point with him. "Lone wolves" won't do it.

All I know is that if they come out with announcements that the election will be delayed or cancelled due to Covid (or if they manage to stop people from voting in swing states), we have to all hit the streets and protest. I'm super high risk, but if that happens, I'll be out there.

I suppose the difference is that the whole US political and economic system relies on far more on maintaining public confidence in the banks' ability to count money correctly and to move it between the right accounts quickly and reliably than it does on counting people's votes in elections.

By the way, it strikes me that these people are so indifferent to human suffering that the reason for all the no-masks and super spreader propaganda could be an attempt to push the death numbers to a point where they can use them as an excuse. How many indoor, maskless rallies does it take to overrun every swing state's hospital system?

Imagine this scenario then, and all you need are a handful of people in each urban area of a swing state prepared to make it happen:

Election morning: coded messages are posted on Twitter by fake accounts, and 10 minutes later a handful of poll workers are shot, execution style before the attackers flee, setting fires. More coded messages during the initial attack, and polling locations with long lines are targetted with automatic weapons fire and bombs left in bags and boxes. This is the main attack.

What happens? poll workers are sent home or relocated, polling locations moved to secure sites. Police presence at secure sites. Other polling locations and other parts of the city are left without police protection due to stretched resources.

Throughout the day, more coded messages, harassment attacks such as bathroom fires at polling sites, firebombings of cars parked near polling locations. Shots fired throughout the day but to relatively no affect. Attacks of opportunity. "Something" newsworthy occurs at least hourly.

Late afternoon/evening: coded messages multiply but there are fewer attacks. Delays from civil authorities randomly shutting down locations, rerouting traffic, and securing perimeters. Being November 3rd, it gets dark early.

Evening/overnight: more unrest. This time not by the initial attackers (who have already done their job) but by copycats and others starting fires and looting just for fun. In some cities elections are extended to the following day, with improved security. Nothing else of consequence happens that day as the initial attackers have already left or are lying low, playing X-Box.

Effects: Massive voter suppression in liberal strongholds but conservative areas which are outside of urban areas are left alone. Votes cast after November 3rd are left in legal contention. Conclusions that the Minneapolis attacks were a dry run for the election night violence. Trump is still untouchable because no legal connections can be established. He has won the election due to massive voter suppression bought on by the violence.

Far- fetched scenario
I live in a liberal part of Atlanta, and my voting locations have been variously the local library, a large church, and a county office building that includes courts, county sheriff, and vehicle registration. There's usually a police officer somewhere on the premises or near by in all these places when people are voting.

Once the first attack happens on election day anywhere in the country, everyone will be on alert and providing more security. At worst, affected polling places would stay open longer, or extend voting to the next day. Between security cameras and smartphones, there would be lots of evidence. To take one swing state as an example, there are nearly 6000 voting precincts in Florida. It would take a massive effort to disrupt more than a few of them. Massive efforts tend to be discovered. An attempt like this is textbook terrorism.

Furthermore, there are people monitoring the groups and individuals that would even try this. Any coded messages would be detected and passed on to state authorities. National Guard takes out would be shooters, oops, their goes their coup.
Assuming they even tried, that is.

More of the polling, more of the Trump anger.

Joe Biden leads President Donald Trump 50% to 36% in a new nationwide poll Wednesday, the latest alarm bell for the president’s campaign as the economy, coronavirus and Black Lives Matter protests continue to weigh on his re-election bid.

The 14-point difference in the New York Times/Siena College poll matches the largest margin Biden has seen this year, and it shows the presumptive Democratic nominee leading or making inroads among a broad cross-section of demographic groups.
