    Sailing in SL

I very recently figured out not to sail across sim corners, which results in two sim-crossings in quick succession. Cutting across a corner like that seems to increase the odds of a crash exponentially. I think I haven't had a sim-crossing crash since I finally started avoiding crossing the...

LOL! Compounded Second Life Fees: Something to Consider

If the real commission rate includes a +19% in hidden percentage, then the Marketplace commission change is adjusting the real commission from 24% to 29%, thus it is not a dramatic jump. The commission isn't too high if the Marketplace is providing an adequate service. The problem with Linden...

    WTF Hovering and poses

Here is what I think is going on with hover, based on what I have seen with animations I have made. Avatar height adjusts your avatar body proportions. Hover height adjusts the relationship between your avatar and the ground. The difference is almost indistinguishable when you are standing...

Why do I have to do separate logins to read profiles?

I use the built-in web browser on the viewer. I don't think there is a "clear cookies" option. I have tried clear cache to no avail. Profiles were still locked, requiring a signing for each profile, on Friday. On Saturday, they were back to working normally. How widespread is this issue for...

Why do I have to do separate logins to read profiles?

So while I was logged in and seeing every profile locked, a brief power outage knocked me offline. I was able to log back in within about five minutes, and profiles were working normally. I logged out and came back a couple of hours later, and the profiles are all locked again.

Why do I have to do separate logins to read profiles?

This is a problem that seems to afflict me intermittently, and has been routine for about a week now. I am already logged into Second Life and inworld. I see someone, I click on them to read their profile. The profile window comes up in the in-world, but the full profile does not show and...

Tell us your Second Life enemies story

So many people seem to find their enemies in neighbors. I've had a little mainland plot for 11+ years now. One neighbor who at first held land adjacent to one side of my plot eventually bought up all plots surrounding mine, and has banlines which annoy me because it boxes me into my own plot...

Is SL freezing and crashing for you?

I had a lot of problems sailing last week getting disconnects/hangs when crossing sims. It's been an occasional problem in the past, but frequent last week. I'm hardwired on my internet connection and it's be very reliable the past few years, so I don't suspect any problems on my end. I...

    Account Changes (LL Blog)

Part of the vagueness may be because Linden Lab doesn't want advertise the fact that it is regulated as a financial services provider. The main thrust of the ToS is that Linden Lab can do whatever it wants to you and you have no legal recourse. Regulations and regulatory bodies could provide...

    Account Changes (LL Blog)

A business that is in the business of holding its clients' money for them has a bunch of legal responsibilities to the client and to the government concerning that money. No business wants to take on all those responsibilities for small change, or wants to hold on to those responsibilities for...

    Account Changes (LL Blog)

Linden Lab, via Second Life, has been in the banking business while evading banking regulation for almost two decades. It's a feat that they got away with it for so long. Haven't they boasted that Second Life has a half-billion USD per year economy? Sooner or later that will be regulated, and...

How much money do you spend on SL every month?

I think Linden Lab has been missing some real economic opportunity by choosing not to upgrade Ruth. There was a thriving fashion business in Second Life before mesh avatars were introduced. You could create an individualized avatar to your vision because the avatar was easily customizable...

Roleplay Game Making Resources and Tips

One place to check for some of the stuff you want is the script library in the Second Life Wiki. I know there is at least an Open Source Holodeck and several teleporter scripts there. I don't think it's necessarily the most up-to-date place to find scripts; but you can pull stuff and see if it...

Roleplay Game Making Resources and Tips

Start small and build up later. You don't absolutely need a lot of scripted stuff and props and so forth to conduct a tabletop-style game over Second Life. You need paper and pencil (notecards), dice, and imagination. If you find a few players to give you a chance, and you can wow them with...

    Is it just me...? *PIC*

I miss it. Whenever I saw someone who took one of those weird arbitrary surnames and made a fun wordplay out of it for their name, I knew that person was someone I wanted to meet.

How much money do you spend on SL every month?

I pay for the Premium account, and that's about it. I have my small piece of Mainland that comes with the account, and my stipend gets donated to sims I like. I make occasional big purchases. I bought Avastar last year (10,000 L$) to help make SL animations. When I heard that Sylva Petrov...

Exactly how many second life accounts do you have?

I don't actually know how many I have or have had. When I first joined SL, I created a bunch of different alts because I thought I would have different alts for social roleplaying. I found though that it took a lot of time and energy to have a lot of different characters; being one person is...

    WTF Marketplace Cull

If it were flagged, then the consumer would not it's probably not supported, and can make the decision about taking a chance on an unsupported item or not.

    WTF Marketplace Cull

I know for a long time, Marketplace- the central hub of Second Life's multi-billion dollar virtual economy- use a freeware search engine. Is that still true?

    WTF Marketplace Cull

I would have liked a solution where the older unsupported products are flagged but not removed, then create a search option to allow consumers to include or exclude such products from search. Second Life does not have a problem of too much content. Second Life has a problem when it comes to...
