I’m still leaning to Warren for her healthcare policy. But I won’t know if she will survive until after SC.

The people I support keep dropping out, I almost think it’s a hex!

To me, that just doesn't work.
You're asking these people to think and look at stuff logically, to use their heads. They can't. They think with their gut and possibly their livers. They have a point of view placed in them by others, and it can't be shaken loose.

I just do not understand this terror of socialism in the US.

Bernie Sanders is a mainstream social democrat in European terms. Back in 2016, he described himself as a democratic socialist, and said that
Here in the UK, and throughout Europe, the vast majority of people, including most people on the right, would agree with him.
The problem is, especially for anyone who lived during any part of the Cold War, the term "socialism" is correlated with the former USSR. Nobody wants life like there.

I'm also troubled by Bernie's use of the term "Democratic Socialist" to describe himself, particularly when the term "Social Democrat" would carry far fewer negative connotations and may actually be more accurate.

Maybe specify American there. From what I gather we're both about the same age group but different countries, and although Canada gets fed a steady diet of American propaganda, only so much of it sticks. Innula was probably closer to the Cold War than either of us given at her hinted background and that goes to show just how alien America can be to outsiders.

Point well taken.

Isn't Putin even more associated with the USSR type of politics/communism? Why doesn't that scare Trump voters?

You would think so, and that would make sense. But you're asking for Trumpsters to make sense.
But that was then -- Putin has now converted to a form of Russian Orthodox Christo-fascism and presides over the authoritarian, nationalist and populist government of a nominally democratic state noted for its plutocrats, oligarchs and gangsters, and for his dislike of gays and Muslims.

He's also a genuine self-made strongman who's come up from the Leningrad slums to run Russia, having broken any of the oligarchs (all of them richer and far tougher than Trump) who tried to stand in his way, and is now one of the wealthiest men in the world. He's the sort of "winner" Trump wishes he were.

What's there for a Trump supporter not to like?

This is why it’s so mind bending for me. The same people who want to be good Christians are worshipping a mobster like a prophet.

Some of them are too dim to see it, of course. To have cognitive dissonance you have to have enough of the cognitive. But the others - am I really surrounded by this much of the authoritarian mental illness and just plain evil?!?

It’s really mind bending. I thought most people were decent? Then they turn out to be perfectly comfortable with leaders who would jail or kill many of us.

It’s mind bending, and I didn’t really trust people already.

The word "Christian" means so many different things to different people. For some, it's a religion with specific tenets that you believe (or don't believe). For others it's just a term for "people like me". The membership card may be stamped "Christian" but it's issued based on commonality of social group, on conforming to the approved rules of the social group, and on not questioning the authorities who run that social group.

I certainly think ignorance is the central problem. Since I work from home and record all msnbc shows to at least skim through , between that and TwitterI can pretty much keep track of the info flood. Most jobs that would be impossible, even for educated people, and so people are susceptible to blatant Trump lies.

Fun fact: half the population has below avg. intelligence. 🤷🏼‍♀️

So basically, no thought given to the actual content of the religion.

If this leaves them with so little in the way of ethics that hard core mobsters are okay, I’m going to call these people either stupid or evil. I just refuse to normalize it. Too many people are in the cross hairs.

I am an unaffiliated, non church going Christian. Between these Trump Evangelicals and the Catholic Church, Christianity may need to go underground for a few hundred years and then start over. Maybe actually adhere to the teachings of Jesus.

It's not an easy product to sell, at least not to the human race. Humility and self-sacrifice always look so much better on other people....
Yeah it was not really supposed to be a get rich quick and molest people kind of movement.
