Barry made hurricane strength for a few hours today and came ashore on the central Louisiana coast as a weak category 1 storm before quickly returning to tropical storm strength, where it currently is.
Barry was a highly unusual storm during its development, it looked like a typical cyclone that had been cut in half with its entire northern side relatively cloud- and rain-free, and all the convection and torrential rain in its southern half. Once it approached land however, the convection and rain in the southern half began to rotate around and north and it's now raining quite heavily in the NOLA area, much of the south coast, and southern Mississippi.
The rain is just starting to get into my area in the last couple hours. It's light to moderate so far. Steady stiff breeze though.
