If I remember it correctly, elected officials and their appointees are allowed to be political, but normal federal employees are not. Some things are allowed, I think donating to a campaign, but more overt stuff is forbidden.

But in practice, I don't know if she can be disciplined or fired by anyone other than her supervisor or higher.

Hell, even if it was a criminal offense, it would be Barr who decided whether to prosecute.
